What are the responsibilities and job description for the Splicer position at Uniti?

The primary responsibility of the Splicer is the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor environments. The position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure; familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures; ability to use fusion splicing equipment and an OTDR; Ability to read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues; Must be able maintain control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s); Maintain accurate splicing and field notes; Support project timelines and provide accurate feedback. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
  • Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
  • Perform work in accordance with industry standards and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Travel will be required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School, a combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to distinguish between colors and read diagrams.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.
  • Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
  • Bending, stooping, climbing ladders and crawling.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Long hours involving overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to drive and back up a truck and trailer proficiently.
  • Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation.
  • Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.
  • Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (e. g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound decisions based on information given.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work multiple tasks in a stressful environment while maintaining a positive and pleasant manner with others.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Salary : $37,500 - $47,400
