Position Highlights | The Department of Political Economy and Moral Science (PEMS) at the University of Arizona is seeking applications for a Department Head with excellent leadership skills, innovative teaching and mentoring, and commitment and enthusiasm for growing the PEMS program. The PEMS Department Head who reports to the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Dean, should be a visionary who can lead a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. We seek individuals who will promote interdisciplinary education and research; the successful applicant will also be a core faculty member in the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom. The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarship and academic achievement; demonstrated leadership and administrative skills and experience, and demonstrated experience with and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. As a faculty member, the candidate will be expected to maintain a strong and productive research program, effectively mentor and advise graduate students, exhibit excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching, and demonstrate commitments to service to the university and public engagement and outreach. The candidate will also help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, fostering diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners. Duties & Responsibilities | The Director is expected to be an engaged and visionary leader who can advance the Department's mission by attracting, mentoring, and retaining the highest quality faculty, expanding and broadening the Department's student enrollment, maintaining innovative educational programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, recruiting and retaining excellent and committed staff, and keen to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community within PEMS. Fostering effective communication within the Department and among university communities and through public engagement and outreach are also key responsibilities of the position. |
