Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Position Summary The Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering ( CSEE ) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Construction Engineering. The research areas of primary interest include the application of robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and/or computational methods to construction engineering. Other areas of interest include construction management, construction safety, and/or sustainable construction techniques.

We are particularly looking for candidates who have a passion for teaching, can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty members, and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential within a professional culture that values equity, diversity, and inclusion. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Duties include:

• Maintain an active externally-funded research program;
• Mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students;
• Teach and develop courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level in the focus areas, including online content. Candidates will also work with other faculty to develop projects and assist with the management of senior capstone design courses.
• Engage in Departmental service, which might include but is not limited to: management of industry internships; coordination of laboratory and instrumentation upgrades; and/or participation in initiatives that promote student excellence and diversity enhancement.

About the Department
The CSEE Department offers BS degrees in civil engineering and environmental engineering, both accredited by the Accreditation Commission of ABET . At the graduate level, CSEE offers MS/PhD degrees in civil engineering, MS/PhD degrees in environmental and water resources engineering, an MS program in engineering sustainability, and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Bridge Engineering.

The Department currently comprises 34 tenure-track faculty, 4 teaching faculty, approximately 500 undergraduate majors, 90 masters’ students and 60 doctoral students. We are currently recruiting up to three additional faculty members (in addition to this position) during the academic year 2023-2024. CSEE scholars routinely engage in collaborations with colleagues from diverse academic disciplines and participate in numerous cross-disciplinary research centers. Teaching faculty work also closely with colleagues from the Department of Engineering Education.

• Candidates must hold a doctorate in civil engineering, construction engineering, or a closely related field.
• All academic requirements for the degree must be completed prior to start date (if conferral is pending).
• Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensure as a registered Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience teaching in an ABET -accredited engineering program.
• Demonstrated excellence in research.
• Professional work experience in one of the identified focus areas.
