The Gorman Museum of Native American Art is a leading university museum in the representation of contemporary Native American art. The museum is committed to contemporary Native American and Indigenous Art that enacts Visual Sovereignty by stimulating critical thinking through politically and socially engaging exhibitions. For the past fifty years, the museum has been dedicated to the creative expressions of Native American artists and Indigenous artists, including some of the most established Native American artists as well as the next generations of emerging artists.
The permanent collections have grown alongside the museum to include artworks from throughout North America, as well as international Indigenous communities. The Native American and First Nations collections emphasize the museum's commitment to contemporary fine art, acquiring and exhibiting works from a wide range of media recognizing the artistic canons in which Indigenous artists are working today. In 2023, the museum relocated to a new and larger location on the campus enabling an expansion in exhibition, event and educational programming.
