What are the responsibilities and job description for the Costume Shop Manager position at University of California - Irvine?

Under the general direction of the Production Manager, the incumbent will manage the costume shop for a fast-paced multi-venue/ multi-performance environment. The incumbent will oversee the completion of all graduates designed, pulled, rented and jobbed out costumes (including wigs, millinery, armor, accessories and other required elements for the costume/character) for all School of the Arts productions. They will supervise and manage costume shop staff including but not limited to: cutters, first hands, stitchers, makeup artists, and crafts persons. They will oversee all costume fittings. They will be responsible for all fiscal related materials for the costume area including budgets, cash advance reconciliation, travel reimbursement, payroll tracking and costume inventory control system. They will also need to supervise and train Drama 101 students while they are in the costume area.
Responsible for supervision and training of staff and students associated with a specific technical aspect of theater productions. May include responsibility for maintenance of theater venues, shops, and storage facilities, including facilities and stage equipment, tools and materials, and developing and implementing operational procedures for all users within the facilities.

Required:
Experience running or assisting in an academic or professional costume shop. 5-7 years of experience in professional and/or university Costume Shop Management.
Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and / or equivalent experience / training. MFA in costume technology and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
Good problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills. Demonstrated knowledge of costume materials including, but not limited to include fabrics, notions, craft supplies, industrial and domestic single and multi-needle sewing machines, steam irons and cutting tools. Demonstrated experience in supervising staff employees including organizing workflow, delegating responsibility, training, and performance management. Ability to set priorities and organize work to meet multiple deadlines. Good knowledge / skills in financial and personnel administration. Knowledge of accounting principles and experience in financial planning and management of budgets. Demonstrated experience in theatrical cutting, draping, dying, stitching and crafts in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. Mastery level knowledge costumes, hair / make-up, good working knowledge of the University and collective bargaining policies, practices, rules, regulations, etc., including safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of costume design and construction techniques in a professional setting, including knowledge of historical costume construction. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills to communicate complex instructions and information to disparate constituencies.
Preferred:
Costume experience in a university, educational or professional theatre environment Knowledge of standard safety procedures as outlined by university and OSHA guidelines. Ability to determine, implement, instruct and maintain safety in the Costume Shop.
