What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Racism Tutor position at University of California - Los Angeles Health?
DescriptionAs a Structural Racism Tutor (Student Worker 3), you will work closely with the Structural Racism and Health Equity Theme Chairs, the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs, and the Curricular Affairs Office to review all curricular materials for signs of bias and to suggest integration of anti-racist teachings and principles to faculty responsible for delivery of content. Structural Racism Tutors also facilitate small group discussions with medical students and assess students' written reflections on structural determinants of health topics.
Salary Range: $17.50 - $38.00/hour
Qualifications* Must be current a UCLA student and have completed the first year of graduate or professional school studies and be in good standing. Nursing students must have been accepted to a nursing program.
* Prior demonstrated commitment to organizing for racial justice at DGSOM.
* Well-versed and comfortable with identifying and addressing how structural racism manifests in medical education, clinical practice, and society, as well as its implications for community health and well-being.
* Knowledgeable about key concepts including structural vs social determinants of health, racial capitalism, history of medical experimentation, race-based medicine, race as a social construct.
* Skills to work directly with medical students and faculty on ways to eliminate and address issues related to structural racism in the curriculum.
