DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. We maintain an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced IT Director of Infrastructure Shared Services to lead our Infrastructure Shared Services teams: Service Management and Automation (ServiceNow, Control-M, GoAnywhere), Enterprise Shared Services (24/7 Operations), Infrastructure Application Support (O365, Box, AWS AppStream), and Vendor Management. Use your experience leading teams to provide exceptional customer service while maintaining operational excellence and achieving critical project milestones. Cultivate analytical efforts to gather, maintain, and analyze metrics to facilitate data-driven decisions and implement efficiency opportunities within Infrastructure. Foster and develop a long-term strategy and roadmap that aligns the services your teams provide with department and organization goals. Manage and work closely with your team managers and IT professionals to anticipate service needs, streamline/automate processes, assess service quality, and improve service offerings. Oversee the work of the team, providing mentorship, unified direction, performance assessments, and fostering an inclusive work environment.

People Management | Leads and mentors team members in Infrastructure Shared Services. Creates a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives. Monitors and oversees human resource management functions including staff performance and recruiting. Manages team in accordance with UC policies and procedures, conducting performance assessments, motivating employees, and facilitating professional development. Highlights and recommends course of action for technical skill gaps. Fosters an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

Operational Leadership | Makes recommendations and implements decisions on matters concerning technical areas of responsibility, department and / or customers. Implements service standards and policies, creates efficiencies within existing resources, and proactively identifies service improvements and new offerings aligned with industry trends. Manages operational issues for unplanned service interruptions by troubleshooting collaboratively with all levels of IT staff.

Project Leadership | Manages diverse project assignments, monitors status to ensure project deliverables are met, and escalates roadblocks. Works with peer leaders to execute shared infrastructure goals, project deliverables, and division initiatives. Participates in project stakeholder meetings and assigns resources to projects accordingly. May require hands on analysis for highly complex medium to large scale programs and projects. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of multiple matrixed project teams. Interacts with all levels of personnel at UCOP. Directs key interactions with stakeholders and end users to limit risk and ensure customer satisfaction. Provides regular communication and status to internal teams and senior management. Delivers meaningful metrics and reporting to staff and executive audiences. Escalates potential risks and ensures senior management participation in initiatives when needed.

Data Analytics | Cultivates analytical framework to gather, maintain, and analyze metrics to facilitate data-driven decisions and implement efficiency opportunities within Infrastructure. Develops and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Return on Investments (ROIs), value metrics, and service costs.


Required Qualifications
  • At least 8 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
  • At least 10 years of experience working in information technology.
  • Proven experience developing metrics and identifying efficiencies to support continuous service improvements requiring the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data across multiple functions and tools. Understanding of analytical tools and the ability to produce executive level reporting metrics.
  • Extensive experience managing remote technical teams. Critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, conflict resolution, mentoring / staff development, leadership / management, problem solving, human resources policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities. Ability to coordinate issue resolution with team members and/or business partners. Demonstrated experience leading a diverse team while cultivating a supportive and inclusive work environment.
  • Experience working to improve and reinforce high performance in others. Facilitated skill development by providing clear, specific performance feedback, and elicit suggestions for solutions/performance improvement.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work efforts across teams, balancing project priorities and operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
  • Ability to establish a culture of customer-focused innovation, knowledge sharing, transparency, creative problem solving, strong partnerships, and open communication.
  • Thorough knowledge of service management (ITIL)
  • Familiarity with vendor management, 24/7 operations, workflow automation, and application support teams
  • Participation in a 24x7 on call rotation with other senior managers.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

License/Certifications
  • ITIL certification preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: $175,000 - $200,000 annually, commensurate with skills/experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

California based applicants who wish to work onsite, hybrid, or fully remotely will be considered.
