DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.

Reporting to the principal investigator (PI), the incumbent will independently be responsible for overseeing lab operations in a lab dedicated to the study of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms causative to the development of childhood cancers, with the goal of identifying new drug targets and improving treatment options.

Individual will serve as the point person for receiving, inventorying and processing samples. Incumbent will oversee and perform general laboratory maintenance and act as Safety and Chemical Hygiene Officer. Duties include purchasing supplies, inspecting and maintaining lab equipment, working with outside vendors, keeping inventory of reagents, supplies and protocols used in the lab, orienting new employees to laboratory practices, and guiding lab personnel in research safety training. Under general guidance, independently and in collaboration with others, perform a wide variety of standard procedures related to tissue culture, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, and liquid handling automation.

Under supervision, incumbent will establish experimental protocols and assist in optimizing assays and developing novel protocols. Individual will independently analyze data and present findings at lab meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge of Life Science or Technology as acquired in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience in.

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to expertly utilize budget and finance software programs such as Oracle and Concur. and ability to expertly utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, decision-making and prioritization skills.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, and effective problem identification and solution skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
  • Must be willing to work with biohazardous agents, including human cells (up to BSL2).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,564 - $90,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.09 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
