Working hours:
Various days/hours as needed.

Monday – Friday; 7 am to 5:30 pm
Maximum 25 hours per week.

Serve as a Substitute teacher of assigned classroom, to include: Under the direction of the center director, plan, write, and implement lesson plans utilizing thematic units and room environments and addressing the following developmental areas: social-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive-intellectual skills. Maintain daily correspondence and reports on children. Assist children in learning social skills such as sharing, waiting a turn, using words to make needs known, as well as personal care skills such as hand washing. Change diapers, provide toilet training or bathroom assistance as needed, keeping the children comfortable with clean hands and faces. Consistently enforce center discipline policy, supervising children at plan in an alert but non-intrusive manner, making developmental observations on each child weekly. Maintain an orderly, clean, and child-oriented classroom. Supervise volunteers and student teachers working as aides in the classroom.
Attend staff meetings and participate in training opportunities each year, as scheduled.
Education & Formal Training Other Education & Formal Training
Associate’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Child & Family Development OR

Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Child & Family Development OR

Child Development Associate (CDA).
Computer Skills Experience
Nine (9) months of experience working with young children in a child care facility required.

College transcripts are required as part of the interview process.
Other Experience Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements of Position: Criminal History check, Child care security check, Fingerprinting Other Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, & State/Federal Requirements Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge: Attention to detail, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Knowledge of a University environment preferred, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Physical abilities: mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance Other Special Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
Maintain confidentiality regarding personal issues regarding children.

Ability to relate positively and in a friendly manner to children, parents, and staff, and show sensitivity to the needs of children and parents.

Ability to show enthusiasm and enjoyment in working with children.

Ability to speak clearly and grammatically correct.

General understanding of child development.

Bending, stooping, and sitting on floor.

Physical stamina to play with children for 4-5 hours.

Some outdoor time is required during the day.

Post-offer physical exam and TB screening as required by licensing and accreditation within 30 days of employment.

In compliance with accreditation guidelines, incumbent must have Child Development Associate (CDA) or at least an Associate’s degree in Child Development.

Per state regulations, incumbent is required to attend training workshops as a condition of employment each year.

Family Care Safety Registry screenings are required for all workers in a child care setting, as required by child care licensing and accreditation.

If a CDA is used to meet qualifications, candidate must get the additional certification within one year if the position applied for is not in the area of the applicant’s current CDA. Candidate is responsible to maintain certification throughout employment.

First aid and CPR training required within 90 days of employment.
