Humanities Adjunct

Position Overview:

Note: Adjunct positions at UCO are part-time teaching positions. This posting is to create a pool of interested applicants from which the Department may draw as sections become open at any point in the current academic year. This posting may or may not result in the hiring of adjuncts. Adjunct faculty provide a quality learning experience for students on a semester basis. Adjunct faculty reports to a dean or chair and performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The Department of Humanities & Philosophy at the University of Central Oklahoma seeks to hire an Humanities adjunct to teach HUM 2000 Introduction to Chickasaw Humanities. This course serves as an introduction to Chickasaw language, history and culture. This three credit-hour course will be offered in Fall 2022. The course may be offered in person, through a synchronous meeting program such as Zoom or Webex, or some combination of the two. Curriculum support and some course content will be provided.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience Required:

The successful candidate should be very familiar with the Chickasaw nation, language, history, and culture. Language knowledge does not have to be at or near fluency, but an intermediate level of language proficiency is desirable. A Master’s degree and college teaching experience are preferred, but candidates who can demonstrate a robust understanding of Chickasaw language and culture will be considered with an earned Bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies.  Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university, the mission and long term goals of the University.   Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers.  Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the UCO Faculty and Employee Handbooks.
