Department BSD OBG - Midwifery Services About the Department The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 140 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and eight offsite locations. We have more than 68,000 outpatient visits, 28,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,300 surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health. The department was ranked #16 on the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report. Job Summary The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. Responsibilities Will be responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum, and newborn patients. The CNM performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. Oversight of many quality and safety projects on Labor and Delivery. Responsible for all phases of assigned projects including assigning individual responsibilities, coordinating activities of project team, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project. Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables. Collaborates with and acts as liaison among the nurse, patient, family, physician, and community resources for coordination of patient care. Selects appropriate communications approach to achieve desired outcomes of patient care. Actively pursues required knowledge and skills for professional development. Identifies and participates in quality assurance issues on the unit. May participate in health education in the community; may participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; may prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; acts as a resource for clinical skills to staff on or off the unit. Participates in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting. Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions. Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization. Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic intervention needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care. Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college. --- Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline. --- Certifications: Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois --- Preferred Qualifications Education: Graduate of a midwifery educational program approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives. Experience: 2 years of full-scope CNM experience strongly preferred. Experience with advanced knowledge of prenatal case, outpatient clinics, labor and delivery, postpartum care and obstetrical ultrasound preferred. 3 years’ experience as an RN/APN or CNM in higher acuity Labor & Delivery settings preferred. Licenses and Certifications: Current IL RN/APN and CNM license, Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificates. Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
