Job Summary
Macky Auditorium encourages applications for Temporary Head Ushers! Head Ushers provide professional customer service to attendees of live performances, including student and public events. The Temporary Head Usher will implement all campus safety and health protocols before, during and after event, until all attendees have exited venue or building. Assisting with Night-of-Show set up/clean-up and Patron Services will be required for this position.

Who We Are
Macky Auditorium Concert Hall is a multi-disciplinary venue and an auxiliary unit of the University of Colorado's College of Music. It serves the campus and the region by entertaining, educating and exciting audiences with high quality local, national and international performances and events. A wide range of performers and speakers have graced our stage throughout the years, such as Eleanor Roosevelt, the Dalai Lama, Yo-Yo Ma, Jane Goodall, Robin Williams, Conan O’Brien, Bill Maher, Eddie Izzard, Alley II, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sam Harris, Pilobolus, and Bill Nye, just to name a few. Within its walls, Macky Auditorium also houses the College of Music’s Jazz and Choral Studies Departments, the American Music Research Center, the Center of the American West and the Center for Humanities and the Arts.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Greet guests in a friendly, professional manner and pass out programs.
- Scan guests’ tickets and point them to the accurate entrance and assist guests with locating their seats.
- Answer questions about the auditorium, events, and location of the nearest restroom.
- Address any guests' concerns.
- Advise guests of Auditorium and event policies (food and beverage, photo policy, late seating policy, etc.) and implement these policies in a firm and friendly manner.
What You Should Know
- This is an on-call, temporary position anticipated to last 9 months, working predominantly weekends and evenings.
- This position is fully in person.
- All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to align with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
What We Can Offer
The hourly rate for this part-time position is $16 - $17.

What We Require
- 1 year of work experience in a related field. Education may substitute for work experience on a year for year basis.
- 1 year of experience leading others.
- Be available to work most (though not necessarily all) of the events in a particular month, particularly any high-attendance shows like Artist Series, high-profile lectures, and big concerts.
What You Will Need
- Be comfortable tackling additional responsibilities, leading ushers in their area by example, and thinking on their feet. Have outstanding guest service skills. Be willing to arrive 30 minutes earlier than the ushers to help setup and leave 20- 30 minutes later to close down the hall.
- Offer friendly, outgoing customer service.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service abilities.
- Comfortable working both independently and in a team setting.
- The ability to balance problems and issues that arise in real time while remaining calm.
What We Would Like You To Have
- Previous experience on CU Boulder campus and familiarity with Macky Auditorium.
- Previous usher and/or guest service experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree.
