Job Summary

University Libraries encourage applications for a Web Content Specialist! The Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring CU Boulder Libraries web content is up-to-date and accurate for its users. They participate actively in library website development, as part of the User Experience group. The Specialist works with a variety of library employees to implement changes to library web content and supervises the site for consistency in content and presentation. They also create user documentation and develop and conduct internal training for associated applications and systems (Springshare, WebExpress content management system, etc.). This position provides user centered customer service and assistance in-person at service points at one or more University Libraries locations as well as supporting virtual user services.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Support Web-Based Applications (e.g., Web Express and Springshare)

  • Perform sophisticated maintenance on existing web content.
  • Consult with partners on existing and proposed web content and initiates reviews, revisions and updates as necessary.
  • Apply standard methodologies for accessibility, content strategy, information architecture and web design.
  • Ensure Libraries’ web content is accurate, up to date and stays in sync with all relevant standards (branding, style, editing, etc).
  • Provide internal training and support for web-based applications, including developing and maintaining documentation.
  • Performs web testing and quality assurance to ensure content is accurate, linking is correct, browser compatibility, etc.; troubleshoots sophisticated issues with web pages and fixes or facilitates resolution of problems.
  • Serve as a point of redundancy for web support [may include early morning, night or weekend hours in case of emergencies.]

User Research

  • In collaboration with colleagues, implement user centered design methods, identifying and anticipating user needs through analysis of site and system usage statistics and other data, usability testing, and other methods as appropriate.
  • Understand how all categories of users interact with the content and organization presented on the Website. Understand information needs of all categories of users.
  • Participate in capturing feedback from internal and external users, analyzing and interpreting that feedback, in order to assess and respond to user needs.

Provide User Centered Customer Service

  • Staffs in-person service points (may be at any University Libraries location).
  • Staffs Libraries-wide virtual services including chat and email.
  • General patron services - circulation, printing, scanning, research assistance, materials access (using stacks, microform machines, etc.), and appropriate referrals.
  • Able to assist with other library services and routine patron account needs (study rooms, reserves, etc.)
  • Position is able to resolve common customer service issues independently. Uses job knowledge to derive solutions to non-standard patron issues and problems.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with web content practice and trends by reading professional publications and other information outlets. Attend workshops and continuing education opportunities that relate to user experience, web content strategy, and web accessibility and other related topics.

What You Should Know

This position is in a hybrid work modality with some required days on-site. Regular schedule Monday-Friday. This role will serve as a point of redundancy for web support and may include early morning, night or weekend hours in case of emergencies.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $60,000 annually. A small relocation assistance stipend may be available within University Libraries guidelines.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor’s degree; coursework in technical writing, web design, content strategy and/or human-computer interaction highly preferred. Experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • One year experience with administering, editing and creating web content using a web content management system

  • Knowledge of best practices for web writing and the ability to adapt writing style to suit online platforms
  • Some familiarity with user experience principles and practices
  • Ability to advocate for a culture of diversity, inclusiveness, and respect.
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships
  • Possesses a high degree of initiative
  • Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong attention to detail including editing, proofreading and ability to produce high quality work with minimal errors meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
  • Proficient communication skills

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience with SEO principles and the ability to incorporate keywords and optimize content for search engines
  • Experience in project management, particularly in maintaining content on high-traffic websites
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience training and troubleshooting common user issues with web content management systems
  • Experience with web accessibility guidelines (ADA compliance, Section 508, WCAG 2.1 Level AA) and their impact on web content creation
  • Experience with Google Analytics (preferably GA4)
  • Experience with Drupal CMS
