The Pre-Collegiate Support and Success Center (PCSSC) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is comprised of the Pre-Collegiate Development Program and the STEM Education Outreach Program serving elementary, middle and high school students. This position supports the goals and objectives of the Pre-Collegiate Support and Success Center programming for middle school students. This position will recruit and support middle school students and their families, design and implement activities to enhance students’ academic and socio-emotional skills, lead a team of students who provide Transition Coaching and mentoring, and participate with the PCSSC team in developing, carrying out, and evaluating a full complement of services that increase access to, and preparation for participating students to pursue postsecondary opportunities.

This position oversees day-to-day operations and implementation of tasks associated with recruiting, admitting, and preparing middle school students for transition into high school and postsecondary preparation with special emphasis on development of critical skills such as reading, math, reasoning, and self-awareness. Designs, delivers, and improves outcome-based, culturally responsive curriculum for middle school academic and social-emotional skill-building workshops. Manages training and development of PCDP Middle School Transition coaches. Actively collaborates with PCDP team to support program mission and vision during the academic year and in the Summer Academic Institute.

Job Duties:

  • Provides leadership and oversight for all PCDP middle school efforts related to student work, community outreach, event planning, and office management.
  • Enumerates specific duties, including outcomes and how they are achieved among staff and student personnel related to middle school programs.
  • Supervises Middle School Transition coaches. Related responsibilities include developing student employee learning outcomes and designing and planning trainings and other professional development opportunities in a collaborative, project-based work environment.
  • Provides on and off-site support for student programming and recruitment, including evening and weekend events, virtual events, and summer programs.
  • With guidance from Program Directors, especially in the STEM field, manages PCDP Transition Coaching program by designing curriculum, activities, and supports in order to facilitate student learning and programmatic outcomes.
  • Oversees operational duties related to managing cohorts of middle school students including budgets and meeting grant and donor requirements and program goals and objectives.
  • Manages social media and communications to middle school and high school students and families.
  • Serves as a liaison to maintain strategic partnerships with school district personnel and university faculty, with guidance provided by the Director.

Work Location: On site

Remote work will be available for emergency events. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $44,378 - $59,170 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Tentative Search Timeline:

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in an education, human development or human services field.
  • 3 years’ prior experience working with middle school students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Ability to speak another language that would enhance equity for populations the program serves.
  • Prior experience working with postsecondary preparation programs at the middle school level or in the middle school to high school transition.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. Tasks may also involve frequent participation in school environments and with middle school aged youth, undergraduate and graduate students. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
