At UConn Health, the Center for Vascular Biology seeks to hire a grant funded, Special Payroll Research Assistant
to aid in projects studying cardiovascular disease, including models of heart attack, stroke and dementia.
Work will include assisting the lab with tagging and genotyping genetically modified mice.
This will be a perfect project environment for a recent college graduate interested in a gap year to develop background and research expertise for future biological or biomedical sciences careers in science or medicine and will provide opportunities for growth and contributions to publication.
Examples of Duties:
Assisting the lab with tagging and genotyping genetically modified mice.
Applying ear tags, extracting DNA and performing PCR and agarose gels as well as note booking results in Excel
(estimated 2 days per week)
Assistance in other lab functions , including isolation of cells from tissues, cell culture, staining for flow cytometry and molecular biology such as qPCR, western blot, immunostaining and plasmid digestion, cloning and propagation in bacteria.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with course work in Chemistry or Biology
Experience with a background in Biology or Chemistry
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid meal break
