Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Grants Manager, this position is within the University of Dayton’s Office for Academic Research and will provide high quality, customer-focused, and compliant research administration support to a large and diverse group of principal investigators, faculty, Deans, Associate Deans, Academic Research support staff, and the Vice President for Academic Research, who are leading innovative research across numerous disciplines. This position will support proposal activities which includes reviewing solicitations, supporting the development of cost proposals, reviewing proposal packages to ensure they adhere to all applicable institutional, state, and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines, and overseeing the submission of complete proposal packages within the sponsor’s deadlines. This position will provide post-award support as well as support project closeout. Specific position responsibilities include:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of sponsor and program requirements, offering guidance and support to Principal Investigators and proposal teams to ensure adherence to solicitation or sponsor guidelines, applicable regulations, and University policies.
  • In consultation with the Senior Grants Manager, effectively communicate grant terms and conditions to Principal Investigators and other support staff to ensure compliance with requirements set forth by the sponsor, University policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct a detailed review of solicitations, support the timely development of the proposal budget, and complete the first level review the proposal to ensure compliance with University policies and sponsor guidelines.
  • Revise and advise on approved budget changes to awarded grants/contracts.
  • Complete the first level review of award agreements to ensure program requirements align with the proposed work and adhere to University policies and Uniform Guidance. This includes reviewing the budget in detail, consulting with the Senior Grants Manager in the negotiation of terms, and communicating and coordinating any necessary changes with the sponsor.
  • Ensure compliance in all other areas related to grant and contract management through consultation with the Senior Grants Manager, including sponsoring organization guidelines, internal protocols, and accurate protocol information within grant documents.
  • Manage multiple work assignments and meet critical deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and communication skills including both written and verbal communications
  • Successful experience working and collaborating with various and diverse constituents
  • Experience managing multiple work assignments and meet critical deadlines
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate level skill with Microsoft Word
  • Experience with federally-funded grants (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE, or other)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the grant life cycle
  • Experience in grants writing or administration
