The Library Associate for Access Services – Evening Supervisor position has responsibility for both public service and technical service activities. Primary job focus is with supervision of Information Desk and circulation transactions for the University community. Position’s work schedule during the fall and spring semesters is Sunday-Thursday 3:15 pm – 12:15 am. Public service activities include assisting University students, faculty, and staff with circulation questions and procedures, and training, scheduling, and supervising student workers assigned to Access Services. Technical service activities include utilizing the appropriate automated service to complete department specific procedures, assisting with interlibrary loan activities, and routine maintenance of equipment. Responsibilities include closing the library at designated times. Initial and ongoing training and support is provided by qualified, degreed librarians.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Assists with all Circulation activities. Duties include preparing, processing and maintaining reserve materials; conveying department policies and procedures; verifying eligibility for library cards; collecting and retrieving department statistics; maintaining stack area; recommending revisions to circulation manual; corresponding closely with patrons concerning recalls, long overdue books, missing books, etc.; assisting patrons with directional and ready reference questions; and supporting interlibrary loan as needed.
2) Trains, schedules, and supervises student workers. Duties include training new and returning students at beginning of semester, on-going training as needed throughout the semester, processing payroll, and completing student evaluation forms at end of semester.
3) Monitors equipment, supplies, and forms. Duties include routine maintenance and repairs to equipment in the Access Services department and Learning Commons; alerting supervisor when maintenance is needed; monitoring and ordering supplies and forms when appropriate; and routine cleaning of equipment. Requires basic troubleshooting and minor equipment repair skills.
4) Supervises shelving and shelf-reading. Duties include supervising student workers on the task of routine shelving of general collection books, shelf-reading these collections and periodic evaluations.
5) Shares responsibility for securing and closing the Libraries, Sundays through Thursdays. Duties include clearing library of patrons, locking all doors, turning off designated equipment, and reporting problems to supervisors.
6) Oversees the Libraries when no librarian is on duty. Responsibilities include conveying and carrying out policies, monitoring and reporting security issues, and seeking assistance from supervisors and university security officers as appropriate.
7) Performs additional duties as requested or assigned.
