Monthly Type: 11 Month Tenure Track: Non-Tenure Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Temporary Other conditions:This hire is a full-time temporary, on RTRF funds, non-tenure track position, annually renewable depending on performance and expected to begin approximately June 2024 or soon thereafter, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate, graduate and/or medical student level courses.
Supervise, mentor, and advise MS and PhD students and/or residents and fellows.
Serve as academic advisor to students and/or serve on advanced degree committees.
Pursue independent research and collaborate on research with a focus on diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolism and metabolic syndrome, and/or the underlying molecular basis for associated disease pathologies and regulation.
Actively seek extramural funding.
Publish scholarly, peer-reviewed research in the area of diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolism and metabolic syndrome, and/or the underlying molecular basis for associated disease pathologies and regulation.
Establish a national and international reputation through conference presentations and similar activities.
Participate in school, and/or University committees.
Other scholarly duties as assigned.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in biological science or relevant field from a college or university of recognized standing.
Eligible to be proposed as a Research Project Leader on the COBRE-DIABETES award. A Research Project Leader (RPL) must qualify either as NIH Early Stage Investigator (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/glossary.htm#EarlyStageInvestigator(ESI)) (ESI) or as a New Investigator (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/glossary.htm#NewInvestigator)
Experience in kidney disease and its application to diabetes, insulin resistance research, metabolism and metabolic syndrome, and/or the underlying molecular basis for associated disease pathologies and regulation.
A record of first author publications in peer-reviewed journals (higher impact values preferred).
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with other faculty members, investigators and research staff.
Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding (e.g., NIH F31, F32, K01, K01, R21; American Heart Association predoc award; American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association postdoc award.
Demonstrated ability as a teacher, such as, experience with mentoring undergraduate, graduate and/or medical students.
Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Desirable Qualifications:
Greater than five (5) first author papers in reputable journals.
Current external support.
Demonstrated ability to secure funding from NIH’s NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases).
National recognition for kidney disease and its contribution to diabetes, insulin resistance research, metabolism and metabolic syndrome, and/or the underlying molecular basis for associated disease pathologies and regulation.
Experience applicable to clinical/translational research in diabetes.
