Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. *Serve as the Director of Information Technology and Technology Support Manager for the William S. Richardson School of Law.
  2. *Report directly to the Dean of the School and serve as the school's only full-time IT professional. Represent the school in both internal and external venues as the senior technical and subject matter expert.
  3. *Work with the Dean to develop long-term and short-term plans for the delivery information technology services to the school. Develop budgets for hardware, operating systems, software, and personnel. 
  4. *Coordinate scheduling, deployment, recovery, and proper secure storage of audio/visual and computer equipment, including the setup of school-related events such as assemblies, meetings, and special events.
  5. *Provide physical, hardware, and software maintenance for audio/visual equipment, computer and networking hardware, and peripheral devices.
  6. *Work directly with lead project managers on special projects such as improving the school's website and the development of electronic student communication and distance learning networks.
  7. *Special projects have broad impact to the school community and the IT Director must work with and advise individuals and groups having diverse viewpoints and opinions on the most appropriate, effective, and efficient solutions.
  8. *Manage the Law Library computer lab with a total of 17 computers and printers. Resolve daily computer hardware and software problems to ensure student access to research software such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw.
  9. *Act as a liaison between the Law School and UH Information Technology Services for services and requirements that involve the interfacing of university-wide technology with the school.
  10. *Estimate resource costs, perform cost/benefit and feasibility analysis, access technical requirements and risk factors based on customer needs and recommend appropriate hardware, software and other tools to ensure the success of those projects.
  11. *Develop security and backup procedures to mitigate or isolate the impact of network intrusions, attacks, or other incidents.
  12. *Troubleshoot and perform corrective measures to resolve or avoid problems with voice, data, or video networks, including operational links.
  13. *Ensure technical coverage for events such as the annual awards ceremony, Jurist-in Residence programs, January Term program, and guest speaker linked to the Law School’s certificate programs, centers, and institutes.
  14. *Monitor and review system performance and user problems to determine system charges or enhancements. Fine-tune the system.
  15. *Supervise, train, and schedule activities of student personnel responsible for on-site computer help-desk support, troubleshooting repair, and out-sourcing repair as needed.
  16. *Make recommendations to management and initiate projects.
  17. *Ensure availability of systems and applications for business workflows.
  18. *Design, plan, and oversee the implementation of voice, data, and video communication cable and hardware consistent with campus networks.
  19. *Provide advanced level technical support and problem resolution for non-technical administrators, faculty, staff, and students for all microcomputer technology support and services throughout the school.
  20. *Research, recommend, support, and maintain PC and Mac software applications needed by faculty, staff, and students to accomplish daily tasks in the most efficient manner.
  21. *Manage and maintain server applications including but not limited to Microsoft Windows 2003, Active Directory, SharePoint, IIS, and Typo3 CMS.
  22. *Oversee the installation, configuration, and utilization of servers, computers, and related peripherals in classrooms, computer labs, library, and faculty and staff offices, including wired and wireless infrastructures and networks.
  23. *Keep current on rapid developments and emerging technologies by researching articles in journals, periodicals, and technical manuals, and by attending classes, conferences, and presentations, and through self-directed study.
  24. *Monitor industry trends, technological developments, and emerging practices in the IT industry and legal education and practice in anticipation of changing customer needs and expectations.
  25. *Provide assistance, recommendations, and procurement of new network-related equipment and upgrades.
  26. *Communicate and work with managerial, administrative, and technical staff to determine information needs, data flows, and system definitions to ensure effective data base and data communications management.
  27. Work outside of normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  28. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) and/or Information and Computer Science (ICS)  or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for network administration and/or database management, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of Database Management Systems as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with networking and/or database development and management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Ability to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays as needed.
Desirable Qualifications: 
  1. Previous professional Information Technology (IT) supervisory experience with oversight of a discrete professional IT unit such as desktop/technical support, enterprise applications, network/systems administration, communications, or similar field.
  2. Previous experience in a Law School or a similar complex professional school.
