The School of Theatre and Music (STM) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), invites applications for a tenure track (open rank) full-time position in Theatre (Acting/Directing) with an anticipated start date of Aug 16, 2022.
The successful candidate will possess a strong background in acting and/or directing and a knowledge of contemporary training and performance techniques for the actor; an ability to teach beginning and advanced acting courses and direct student productions; a commitment to equity and diversity in teaching; and a desire and ability to work with colleagues to sustain and grow a program for the 21st-century theatre artist. Duties include teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students; maintaining a vibrant professional creative or scholarly research agenda; and providing ongoing service to the university and profession.
The School of Theatre and Music aims to become a national leader in inclusive theatre and music education and training, and recognizes that underrepresented minority faculty members must play key roles in realizing this goal. Course work is offered leading to a BFA in Acting, a BA in Theatre and Performance, a BA in Theatre Design, Production, and Technology, a BA in Music, a BA in Music Business, a BM in Music Performance, and a BM in Jazz Studies. The faculty consists of performing artists and scholars. The Department of Theatre is led by Yasen Peyankov, Head of Theatre. Prof. Peyankov is an acclaimed Chicago actor and director whose work on stage is closely associated with Steppenwolf Theatre where he is an Ensemble Member since 2002. The School of Theatre and Music is led by Christine Dunford, Director (actor, director, adaptor) an Ensemble Member of Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company since 1989. Minimum requirements include an earned terminal degree (MFA, PhD), or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments; a nationally recognized profile as an actor and/or director, or evidence of potential for one in the theatrical field; professional and teaching experience interpreting a wide range of classic and contemporary texts; at least five years of professional experience; strong record of teaching; and a demonstrated commitment to supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in curriculum, the classroom, and the field.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
