Summary:
The Program Coordinator of IIP Case Intake, under the supervision of the IIP Staff & Intake Attorney, will manage and lead the case intake team and process. This position is based in Springfield, IL.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Implement the case intake team priorities, goals and objectives while managing the case intake team through the entire case intake review process. This includes scheduling and participating in case intake review meetings, case intake investigative meetings, assisting intake investigators when needed and appropriate, managing the drafting of proper correspondence sent to applicants, thorough review of applications, detailed memorialization of all meetings, managing/scheduling case intake legal calls and visits and drafting case intake and evaluation memorandum.
  • Provide program knowledge and expertise in management and updating of the legal database(s) used to reflect case status, assignments, notes. This includes overseeing and ensuring the case intake team properly processes applications and any attending documentation and is properly placed in the legal database(s). Send annual updates to applicants as required.
  • Provide leadership for the case intake team in organizing and prioritizing cases to be evaluated with the Staff & Intake Attorney and assign prioritized cases in collaboration with the Program Director of Interns and Education.
  • Manage case closings including attending case closing meetings, keeping detailed notes and drafting case closing memos under the direction of the Staff & Intake Attorney.
  • Coordinating information and data for the Operations Director for grant reporting purposes.
  • Assist with and/or deliver public and private presentations about the work of the Illinois Innocence Project.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in legal studies, public administration, English, communications, or related field.

2. One (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent in the position such as legal studies and/or wrongful convictions.
(Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Additional one (1) (12 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in the area of legal studies and/or wrongful conviction.
2. Experience presenting to students and public audiences

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to participate productively on multidisciplinary project teams made up of faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, attorneys, investigators, experts and other professionals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy office setting and off-site if necessary.
Ability and willingness to travel with a valid driver's license frequently within Illinois and occasionally out of state.

5% Ability to travel as necessary
