The Visiting Communications and Marketing Coordinator at the Office of Medicaid Innovation works with OMI Leadership to organize, plan, execute, and evaluate the Unit's public relations, education, and information outreach programs via email, web, social media, and other channels. You will assist with campaigns and create stories using a wide range of mediums to reach diverse audiences. You will be responsible for maximizing the overall visibility of OMI and the Medicaid Technical Assistance Center (MTAC), in partnership with Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) and the University of Illinois System External Relations (ERC) and Communications Office. Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) is Illinois' single state Medicaid agency and the state organization responsible for administering Illinois' Medical Assistance and Child Support programs. Additional responsibilities include:

Content and Strategy Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the Unit in alignment with OMI priorities in adherence with Unit brand.
  • Develop and maintain OMI's media presence utilizing its approved branded identity, including graphics, photos, text, gifs, and video.
  • Engage Project Order partnering Units and external partners to collect, develop and share information with relevant audiences.

Storytelling and article writing

  • Serve as primary writer, content creator, and editor for OMI communications aimed at various constituencies including funders, project orders, and external stakeholders.
  • Review and revise internal and external facing materials consistent with OMI branding.
  • Identify, research, and write stories highlighting OMI services and activities for the OMI website, reports, newsletters.
  • Create articles and guides to inform Illinois constituents of available resources, service changes or updates, and new service releases.
  • Help plan and edit articles and stories written by fellow team members.

Service-related communications and marketing

  • Work across the organization to plan, create, and distribute communications regarding OMI services, using a variety of channels and methods.
  • Participate in regular communications and marketing planning to set priorities, campaigns, and schedules.
  • Serve as a communications coordinator on projects and initiatives coordinating between OMI, HFS, and System Office ERC.
  • Assist in coordinating, composing, and distributing internal communications.
  • Follow content strategies that use data analytics to maximize the effectiveness of communications campaigns.
  • Provide guidance and revisions to service teams to ensure support documentation is easily understood.

Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, journalism, English, public speaking, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Ability to write clearly for various audiences and communications channels.
  • Ability to create or edit graphics, photos, videos, gifs, and other visual content.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking capabilities to meet deadlines and produce accurate, detail-oriented work.
  • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to interact with a broad array of internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong decision-making skills and judgment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative software such as Microsoft Teams preferred.
  • Experience with current communication tools consistent with industry standards.
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling tools.
  • Ability to gain a broad understanding of the missions of University of Illinois Systems, OMI and HFS and how these intersect.
