Job Description
The Area Coordinator is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life and is responsible for the overall administration of their assigned residential complexes, staff, and student development in addition to departmental assignments. Area Coordinators should be committed to increasing student engagement and carrying out the mission of the Division of Student Affairs. This is a required live on-campus position that includes the expectation of eating in our University Dining Center to provide policy enforcement within the dining facilities and to promote community development for staff and students.

Qualifications- Area Coordinator
- Master's degree from an accredited institution
- Prior residence hall and leadership experience
- Prior supervisory experience
- Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of people from diverse backgrounds and interests
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, with individuals
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekend
Responsibilities- Area Coordinator
- Maintain accurate records including occupancy, key inventories, student conduct, budget accounts, and other housing related processes
- Coordinate residence hall maintenance procedures and ensure prompt follow-up
- Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Graduate and Undergraduate student staff
- Serve on and/or chair Residence Life Departmental Committees
- Works closely with the Living Learning Community (LLC) housed within the supervision area.
- Maintain weekly student staff meetings
- Communicate clear performance and involvement expectations to student staff
- Assist in the development and instruction of Student Staff; including training, selection, in-services, and staff meetings
- Establish a departmental and student culture where diversity, inclusion, and belonging are encouraged and where staff and students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership
- Maintain a high level of visibility and interact with students on a regular basis
- Contribute to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities
- Assist students, individuals, and groups with their needs and concerns
- Support and assist with departmental programmatic initiatives, including assigned committee work, which may often require collaboration with other offices
- Maintain active participation with staff development activities, plan and participate in year-round individual professional development opportunities, and assist in providing professional development for student and professional staff
- Communicate guidelines of conduct, define student responsibilities, and serve as initial disciplinary hearing officer
- Counsel and advise students, provide referrals when needed or requested, and intervene in crisis situations
- Serves as the primary on-call and/or emergency contact person for assigned residential areas. Participates in on-call responsibilities for the entire residential campus.
- Meet weekly with the Residence Life Staff and Student Affairs Suite Staff
- Serve on University Committees as determined by Assistant Director, Associate Director, and/or Senior Associate Dean of Students
