Job Description Summary:
The Central Business Services Organization provides Business and Financial Services to operational business units reporting to the Chief Financial and Business Officer for KU Medical Center. These services include business planning and consulting, capital planning, project financial management, procurement, financial planning, and reporting, etc.

Job Description:
We are seeking an Assistant Director of Financial Analysis who will have responsibilities supporting these business units and be accountable for financial planning, analysis and consultation, data management and reporting, and special projects as assigned. This is a leadership role within the Business Services organization. This position trains and supervises the performance of assigned personnel and functions, requires interaction with various levels of leadership, and can effectively handle a diverse range of duties while exercising initiative and independence. This position is ideal for a self-motivated team player with experience working and leading in a matrix environment.

Financial Planning, Analysis and Consultation

Monitor fiscal performance, update financial forecasts, and provide monthly financial reports for assigned business units to ensure compliance and effective internal controls. Interact with departments, business units, institutional finance, and other centers of expertise to develop financial policies and procedures.
Provides trend and variance analysis reporting and explanations of budget vs. actual results for assigned units
Guide the successful operation of the accounting and financial functions for assigned fund areas, including general, designated, gift and other funds, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal and state regulatory requirements, and University policies.
Compile, interpret, and communicate financial information to various audiences, including the business unit leadership, internal and external stakeholders as appropriate
Supports the budgeting and forecasting process, including the annual budget load, monthly fund account reviews with operational managers, review, and analysis of state and non-state fund accounts.
Provide support and advice to business unit leaders and Director of Finance and Business Operations on financial and business management, while maintaining the strictest confidentiality.

Data Management and Reporting

Streamline internal data management to ensure reliable reporting on a timely basis.
Develop and report on business segment metrics and scorecards
Develop standardized and ad hoc reporting for Central Business Services, departments, and EVC units
Partner with the Enterprise Analytics and Financial Planning & Analysis team to develop tools and analytics to perform various types of financial analysis or modify existing or new analysis and reporting
Work with various business units to understand business reporting and data analysis needs.

Project Management

Provide support, planning, and program development relative to decision support for the Director of Finance and Business Operations. The applicant must be able to articulate the analyses into a cohesive executive summary for presentation to a variety of management levels.
Manages day-to-day process improvement initiatives for the central business services team and execution of all steps in the PI process (i.e. identification, process mapping, design and implementation).
Develop standardized forms and templates with input from key stakeholders to ensure process consistency across centrally managed business units.

Management / Supervision

Will directly supervise assigned team member(s) within Central Business Services.
Develop Staff - Foster growth and talent retention for administrative staff through functional alignment, defined career paths, and career development opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned

Other duties may include cross training in tasks of other positions in the department for back-up and work overflow purposes. Maintain strictest confidentiality.
May serve/lead on departmental and/or KUMC committees as assigned
Serve as backup and has authority to make decisions based on experience and skill level in the absence of the Director of Finance and Business Operations.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities (both personal and social identities), cultures, backgrounds, ideologies with a commitment towards inclusion and belonging.
BBA/BA/BS in Analytics, Finance, Economics, or Business (or related field).
High proficiency in Excel (VBA, modeling, formulas, graphing).
Very high financial acumen with demonstrated ability to accurately analyze/interpret/summarize large volumes of data.
5 - 7 years of progressive growth experience with proven business acumen and a detailed knowledge of finance or business services.
2 - 5 years of experience directly or indirectly supervising professional staff members
Ability to understand databases and complex financial/accounting systems.
Ability to illustrate the impact of financial decisions quickly and accurately.
Strength in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels.
Working knowledge of ERP systems; experience utilizing data available in these financial software systems to make informed decisions.
Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal and experience with decision making, problem solving and analytical skills to resolve issues requiring judgment, discretion, and tact.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic planning, and organizational skills, including tact, diplomacy, and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

MBA or other related Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPA or CIA designation
Experience with data mining, validation, trending, and creation of variable financial models.
Experience in higher education
Experience with SQL Server and/or other database applications.
Experience with Workday, and Adaptive Insights.
Experience with QlikView or other BI tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles for government, for-profit or non-profit institutions.
A track record of collaboration and accomplishment advancing initiatives and fostering change with multiple stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex assignments with a high degree of organization as well as the ability to respond to requests, prioritize, make independent decisions, and execute in a timely manner.
