Job Description Summary:
The All of Us Research Program Heartland Consortium (AoURP-HC) is a four-state collaborative effort between the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS), the University of Missouri (MU) and MU Health Care, the University of Iowa (UI) Health Care, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), along with the aforementioned affiliated clinics, and networks of community partners with locations in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the four-state geographical region.
The AoURP-HC activities are part of the National Institutes of Health All of Us Research Program vision and goals to enroll a cohort of one million diverse participants to build an indispensable resource that accelerates precision medicine for all populations.
The AoURP-HC aims to address health disparities by increasing the participation of racial/ethnic minorities and rural residents in the largest precision medicine initiative in history.
The Executive Director of the All of Us Research Program Heartland Consortium is responsible for leading and overseeing strategic direction, operations, and implementation of Consortium objectives. The Executive Director will be pivotal in achieving program goals by establishing and maintaining effective partnerships, driving participant enrollment, ensuring appropriate data exchange, and advancing research protocols. This role requires strong leadership skills, financial and data acumen, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams to deliver high-quality results.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to contribute to the advancement of precision medicine research and address health disparities by increasing the representation of racial/ethnic minorities and rural residents in the All of Us Research Program. The Executive Director will play a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare and ensuring the benefits of targeted therapies and personalized preventative strategies reach historically underserved populations and/or minoritized populations.

Required Qualification

Education and Certifications

Master's degree or equivalent working knowledge in the field of Clinical Research, Health Sciences, Public Health Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

Work Experience

7 years of progressive leadership experience in academia, healthcare, biomedical research, or a related field.

Experience in budget management and resource allocation.

Proven experience successfully leading and delivering complex research projects on time with satisfied stakeholders with whom you have a trusted rapport as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualification

Education and Certifications : Ph.D. in a health-related field, or M.D. or equivalent professional degree.

Work Experience

Five or more years of experience working with and/or recruiting historically underserved and/or minoritized populations and engaging with community partners to achieve shared research objectives.

Proven experience leading large-scale initiatives, establishing partnerships, and driving participant enrollment in diverse populations.

Experience managing multi-site, multi-year research studies including IRB reliance procedures across institutions.

Familiarity with the All of Us Research Program or similar initiatives.

Experience with direct research participant interactions.

Skills:

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including research participants, community organizations, healthcare providers, and research institutions; ability to synthesize collaborative input and influence outcomes.

Comprehensive understanding of the scientific process and the operational research processes involved in large research projects.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, researchers, faculty, and staff.

Job Duties

Strategic Leadership : Provide strong leadership and strategic direction to the AoURP-HC, aligning objectives with the overall goals of the national All of Us Research Program. Provide guidance and direction to staff members, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Operations Management : Oversee day-to-day Consortium-level operations, ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources, including budgetary control, financial management, risk assessment, and team leadership. Foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment encouraging teamwork, communication, and knowledge sharing. Implement systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.

Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including at least eight principal investigators and the Consortium leadership team, physician leads, staff, partner and community organizations, government agencies, and the Consortium's university and healthcare partners. Represent the organization in public forums, conferences, and collaborative initiatives.

Partnership Development : Establish and foster collaborations with partner academic medical centers, health systems, community organizations, and relevant stakeholders to build a robust network within the central United States. Foster strong relationships with the NIH All of Us Research Program infrastructure, including other All of Us Health Provider Organizations (HPOs) around the United States, the Data Research Center at Vanderbilt University, the Mayo Clinic Biobank, and corresponding committees.

Participant Enrollment : Lead and direct research activities to enroll over 30,000 full participants within five years, with a focus to achieve diversity in racial/ethnic minority groups and rural residents. Oversee implementation of participant engagement and retention strategies to ensure active and ongoing involvement across the Consortium.

Data Exchange and Research Protocols : Work collaboratively with the national AoURP infrastructure to ensure secure and standardized processes to submit electronic health records periodically to the Data Research Center. Direct the development and ensure alignment and successful implementation of all research protocols across the Heartland Consortium.

Compliance and Participation : Ensure compliance with AoURP policies, maintain fidelity to the core values of the program, and actively participate in ancillary studies, task forces, and working groups. Uphold ethical standards and regulatory requirements related to participant privacy and informed consent.

Continuous Learning and Professional Development : Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices. Engage in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
