Position Title: Student Athlete Academic Center: Academic Counselor
Department: 2002|Student Ath Acad Center
Responsibilities:
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics Department is seeking a qualified Academic Counselor (for Football). This position will report directly to the Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services for Football.
- Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes for assigned sports (Football)
- Assist with the academic, social, and career development of student-athletes in cooperation with other University support services
- Counsel student-athletes regarding academic performance, course/major selection, graduation plans, NCAA academic eligibility requirements, and other matters critical to their academic success.
- Communicate student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility status to coaches and athletics administration through reports and regular meetings.
- Work with SAAS academic staff, the Athletics Compliance office, the Registrar’s office, and campus departments to monitor and verify that student-athletes are meeting NCAA eligibility rules, institutional policies, and graduation requirements.
- Assist with developing office processes that are data driven.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, public relations, interpersonal, customer service, and supervisory skills when working with student-athletes, faculty, staff, coaches, and administration.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others; commitment to working with multi-cultural populations.
- Have strong work ethic and be a person of high integrity and character who shares a commitment for knowing and complying with NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules as they apply to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics program.
- Ability to work extended daily hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- 1-2 years of experience advising and counseling student-athletes in a Division I athletic academic support program
