The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking candidates for the position of Admissions Counselor. This position assumes responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Admissions. As part of a campus and a system undergoing transformation, this position is expected to promote flexibity and solution-based thinking.


Essential Duties:

  • Serves as a well-informed ambassador both on-and-off campus to prospective students, parents, alumni, school counselors and community leaders.
  • Provides dynamic and educational public information sessions, panels, and presentations for external audiences.
  • Executes up to twelve weeks of Admission recruitment travel to high schools, college fairs, community-based organizations, college night programs, receptions, and events.
  • Completes and evaluates applications in geographic assigned territory and evaluates candidacy to Farmington. Initiate and follow through on yielding strategies for admitted students.
  • Assists with planning recruitment travel to high schools, college fairs, and college night programs.
  • Facilitates group presentations both on and off campus.
  • Participates in various student visit programs designed to recruit prospective applicants to Farmington (open house, overnight visits, accepted student events).
  • Communicates with prospective students, families, school counselors through various means of technology, including but not limited to: email, text, phone, zoom and in-person.
  • Provides assistance with the Student Ambassador programs and events: tours, calling efforts, special group visits, hosting programs, and others as assigned. Assist with providing ongoing training, mentoring, and support.
  • Assists with social media for the recruitment and enrollment.
  • Provides some weekend coverage for on-campus events (typically 8-12 days annually).
  • Works collaboratively with other success partners across campus
  • Builds meaningful relationships and communication channels

  • Technology Utilization – including, but not limited to: PeopleSoft (MaineStreet), Salesforce, SMS360, Apsona, Concur, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, RepVisits, Scoir, COD, EPIC, NSLDS, various social media platforms, etc.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University.
  • Willingness to constantly engage, reach out, connect, and keep in contact with prospective and matriculated students.
  • Valid driver’s license (in good standing based on UMS standards)

Preferred:

  • One-two years of experience in Admissions or closely related professional field.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with new technologies and database platforms: CRMs, Concur, etc.
  • Experience working with high school/college bound students and families.
  • Demonstrated geographic management which includes, but not limited to: recruitment, selection, yielding activities, program and event management experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with various social media platforms.
