What are the responsibilities and job description for the Women's Center Director position at University of Maryland Baltimore County?
Women's Center at UMBC
Established in 1991, the Women’s Center at UMBC occupies a crucial position in the history of gender equity and support for historically marginalized communities at our university. The aims and scope of the center have changed over the last 30 years to reflect and better serve the needs of our community. The Women’s Center’s current mission is to advance gender equity from an intersectional feminist perspective through co-curricular programming, support services and advocacy for marginalized individuals and communities. The Women’s Center prioritizes critical social justice as a community value with a deliberate focus on women, gender, anti-racism and feminism. Since its creation, the Women’s Center was made to serve all members of the UMBC community, including students, faculty and staff. As a department under the Division of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, we are uniquely placed in our university to achieve the broad intent of this vision.
The Women’s Center embodies our commitment to diversity, inclusivity and social justice in our operation, staffing and programming. Beyond programming, the Women’s Center offers a lounge space for UMBC campus community members to build healthy relationships guided by brave space practices. All aspects of our services are rooted in our commitment to challenge barriers that reinforce inequity and oppression impacting our university. The Women’s Center is guided by principles of non-hierarchical, anti-violence frameworks and commitment to facilitating authentic dialogues that encourage consciousness-raising, transformative learning, and self-determination.
The Women’s Center Director will provide person-centered, strengths-based, growth-minded leadership to support the mission and function of the Women’s Center, as well as strengthen our university’s commitment to inclusive excellence, social justice, and equity.
