Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland, Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education seeks to fill the Director of Training and Assessment position within the Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) Training Center. Housed in the College of Education, the IGD Training Center is the central hub for dialogue facilitation training, curricular support, and dialogue skill development. The Center is committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality support to faculty, staff, and students as they navigate the evolving landscape of diversity education at UMD. Through a range of services including training, consultations, coaching, and continuous development opportunities, the center aims to empower individuals to lead meaningful dialogues across and within differences that foster inclusive and equitable communities, both within and beyond the classroom.

The Director of Training and Assessment will play a crucial role in the development and enhancement of the IGD Training Center through strategic training initiatives, curriculum development, and ongoing programmatic assessment. The qualified candidate will have substantial experience developing training curricula, a solid foundation in identity development theories, using participant-centered approaches and significant experience facilitating training.

Essential Responsibility (1): Training and Development of facilitators
  • Takes a lead role, in close collaboration with the Center Director, in ongoing and iterative curriculum development and materials design and standardization
  • Lead trainer in delivering facilitation training and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and support to facilitate the growth and development of new facilitators
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify training needs and ensure alignment with institutional diversity education goals and objectives
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to optimize skill acquisition and development


Essential Responsibility (2): Curriculum Development and Review
  • Lead the development and review of curriculum materials for facilitator preparation, ensuring alignment with best practices in intergroup dialogue
  • Work closely with faculty partners to enhance discipline-specific IGD courses and update curriculum content as needed.
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and insights from emerging research into curriculum development efforts

Essential Responsibility (3): Collecting and Analyzing Program Effectiveness Data
  • Establish processes for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting program effectiveness data from various sources, including training sessions, course evaluations, and other relevant metrics
  • Utilize data analysis techniques to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in skill development and training outcomes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement strategies for continuous improvement based on assessment findings and feedback.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Doctorate in psychology, counseling, education, or a related field.


Experience:
  • At least 3 years experience with Intergroup Dialogue facilitation training and education.
  • Experience developing and implementing curricula for training programs.
  • Experience facilitating training programs for instructors/service providers and mentoring/coaching participants in the delivery of content and instruction.
  • 5 years experience with diversity training at a college or university.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of teams and partners.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
