Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments. equipment, and practices toensure that they follow safety standards and government regulations. Conductanalyses of conditions and communicate safety factors to UMD personnel. Preparewritten reports on their findings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education (include licenses, certification, etc.):
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in science-related major.
Experience:
At least two years of related work experience (e.g., safety of facilities operations and assistance with safety program development).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in science-related major.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Interpersonal relationship building, understanding of databases and the management of safety information, development of concise and accurate information summaries.
- Training presentation experience, ability to prioritize work and objectives, and ability to make independent judgment. Understanding of machinery and safety controls is
- preferred. Will occasionally be required to work off-hours and be subject to on-call
- capacity to respond to and investigate incidents occurring at the university or affecting
- university personnel. CHMM or other safety-related certification is preferred.

Physical Demands
- Able to perform extensive standing, walking, climbing, and lifting.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
- Will occasionally be required to work off-hours and be subject to on-call.
- Must have the capacity to respond to and investigate incidents occurring at the university or affecting university personnel.
- May work in dirty, dusty or uncomfortable surroundings.
- Must be capable of working in temperature extremes and environments that are uncomfortable and that present potential health risks if appropriate protections are not utilized.
- Must pass an annual physical examination to utilize protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
- May be required to obtain special training and/or certification needed to fulfill the duties of the position as appropriate.
