Vaccine Protocol

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Dining Services Facilities. Provides hands on administrative training and technical supervision and support of daily and special project work of the Pipe Services, Plumbers, Steam Fitters, Gas Fitters, Foodervice Equipment and Systems that are primarily Piped Services based mechanics and helpers including the specification and requisition of all Food Service Equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field. ADDITIONAL MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE OF PIPE SERVICES TRADES MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR DEGREE. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in any combination of Plumbing, Gas Fitting or Steam Fitting, two years of which must include the supervision of journey level mechanics in the trades. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and the practices and technologies used in the installation repair and maintenance of Pipe systems. Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the Pipe trade; of the national plumbers code; of basic mathematics; of NSF food service equipment standards. Thorough knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting and gas fitting and food service equipment, ventilation and systems. Skilled in the installation repair and maintenance of commercial and industrial food service equipment, and food service facility systems; in the use of equipment used in Pipe Services and food service exhaust systems; in welding, brazens, soldering and silfos, in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematic drawings, specifications and contract documents; in the use of dial indicators venier calipers and depth micrometers; in using competitive to diagnose plumbing systems problems and to control piping, gas and steam systems. Ability to read and explain manufactures recommendations, regarding scheduled and preventative maintenance; services and operation, to prepare written reports; to organize the activities and logistics of multiple projects and repairs simultaneously. Outstanding oral and verbal communication skills and abilities to lead, train, supervise, motivate and develop a diverse work team in a unionized diverse environment. Ability to work in, on or around, over and under food equipment and machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to wear and work in personal protection equipment to manipulate heavy equipment tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 50 pounds. Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the Dining Services facility team and dining services operational units with a mutual goal of providing an outstanding guest experience and a thriving, motivated, respectful workplace. Knowledge of food service equipment and food service systems heating and exhaust systems and the ability to develop specifications for the procurement of food Service equipment and supplies.
Preferences:
At least 5 years of experience repairing, maintaining, and installing food service equipment and food service facility systems.
Additional Certifications:
WSSC Master Plumbing Certification. Must have (or obtain within 90 days or hire) and maintain a Prince Georges County Food Service Manager Certification. Must have and maintain a driver’s license valid in Maryland with less than 6 points.

Physical Demands
This is an essential position and incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency situations. Must be able to work a variable schedule including weekends, nights, evenings, and holidays. Annual leave will not be granted for specific periods including the weeks preceding and right after the start of each semester, Maryland Day, Family Weekend or special events including but not limited to OM. Must have the manual dexterity to operate equipment with or without accommodation and to lift up to 15 pounds regularly. The University of Maryland is a non-smoking campus.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds occasionally and stand, walk and work on feet for long periods of time. Must be able to work in extreme weather, humidity and temperature conditions including regularly working between 40 degrees and 90 degrees for extended periods and, from 15 below zero degrees to 40 degrees and from 90 degrees to 110 degrees for short periods of time. Must be able to work on, over, and under equipment. Must be able to work on, over, and under equipment. Must be able to work in confined spaces and wear and work in PPE.
