Position Description:
Under the direction of the Physical Plant Director, or other appropriate staff, the HVAC/R technician provides day-to-day repair and preventative maintenance services on university equipment and infrastructure. Provides services regarding the maintenance, planned interruption, and long-term replacement of HVAC/R mechanical services. Troubleshoots, repairs, and performs maintenance on all types of mechanical, infrastructure, equipment/components, and HVAC automated systems/components.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Maintain and service all heating/ventilating/air conditioning (HVAC/R) systems and equipment throughout the campus. These systems include low-pressure boilers; hot water circulating systems; natural gas forced air units; air handlers; chillers; packaged heat and air conditioning units; and circulating pumps.
- Complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks related to HVAC/R systems.
- Applies a problem-solving approach of preventive maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and evaluation of systems. Installs sensor, actuator components, pneumatic and electric devices.
Installs conduit, pulls wires and connects electrical equipment and components. Installs plumbing supply and drain lines using a variety of techniques including welding, soldering, and gluing.
- Perform daily checks of all HVAC/R operating systems connected to the Johnson Controls
Metasys Temperature Control System.
- Evaluate, procures, and monitor physical plant needs. Communicate with contractors and vendors to maintain system integrity. Orders supplies and maintains an inventory of stock items.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area including an assigned University vehicle. Responsible for the upkeep of all assigned tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a maintenance HVAC/R background preferred. Must have a working knowledge of heating/ventilating/air conditioning systems. Willing to obtain a Universal EPA 608
Certificate. A positive work attitude and a willingness to work together as a team are essential. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. Must be available to work any shift, if needed.
Must be able to perform physical work, including lifting and maneuvering at least 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations, and be able to work from at least an eight-foot ladder. A valid
Ohio Driver’s License is required to operate University vehicles.
