The School of Public Policy and Leadership (SPPL) at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Sustainability, with a focus on urban resilience and sustainability. SPPL is part of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs (GCUA). GCUA consists also of the Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Criminal Justice, the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, and the School of Social Work.
ROLE of the POSITION
The School of Public Policy and Leadership is seeking to add a faculty member to help lead, manage, and teach sustainability policy and resilience. SPPL expects the person in this position helps to raise its national visibility and contribute to the priorities of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs.
The successful candidate will have or show clear promise of a strong, active research program in Resilience and Sustainability Studies, which may include Urban Affairs and Policy, Climate Change, Urbanization, Sustainable Transportation, Public Services, Local Government; and others on the intersection of Social Equity, Environmental Policy, and Economic Development. Candidates with strong research agendas on these topics outside the United States are welcome to apply. A successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in public policy, public administration, and public affairs, or a related field at the time of appointment, and have the ability to advise graduate students. Also, candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach undergraduate courses in a variety of areas, such as urban resilience, sustainability, urban governance, and urban affairs. The ability to teach graduate courses in public policy, local governments, urban affairs theory and qualitative and/or quantitative research methods is also important, along with graduate courses in the candidate's primary areas of expertise. Moreover, Candidates should also be able to evidence their commitment to providing mentorship and training.
The position will be tenure track at the Assistant Professor level, and the appointment will begin in the Fall of 2023. The dynamic and vibrant setting of Southern Nevada offers a unique range of scholarly opportunities related to community engagement and policy development. We seek a colleague who can take advantage of these opportunities through internal and external collaborations.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in research and community-engaged, cutting-edge scholarship, and research grants application. Experience collaborating with government or nonprofit sectors is highly desirable, as is practical experience in community engagement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Ph.D., Doctorate, or other terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
