Position Summary

TheDepartment of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Centeris seeking an experienced clinician in Critical Care atthe Associate Professor or Professor Level to serve as Division Chief forPediatric Critical Care. The leader will have a proven record ofaccomplishment in leadership, clinical service, patient care, research andscholarship, education and mentorship. This innovative, academic leader willhave program oversight responsibility for the Pediatric Intensive CareDivision, which includes oversight of the Pediatric Hospitalists group, whichhas an active section chief.

Theposition includes patient care responsibilities in a state of the art, 20 bedmulti-disciplinary Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, which averages 1200admissions per year. UNM is the main referral center for the entire state andsurrounding areas. The program includes a full complement of pediatric medicaland surgical subspecialties including pediatric surgery, pediatricneurosurgery, pediatric ENT, pediatric urology, and pediatric anesthesiology. Clinicalservices also include pediatric sedation service, and ECMO program.

UNMserves a diverse patient population and is the only Level 1 Trauma center forthe State. The Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Divisionhave a long tradition of providing outstanding, comprehensive care to thechildren of New Mexico. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at theUniversity of New Mexico School of Medicine trains 60 pediatric residents. UNM is a member of the NIH CTSA Consortium,and is a leader in biomedical research for the state.

NewMexico is a geographically large state, with both urban and rural populationstotaling 2.1 million. Albuquerque is afour-season city one mile in elevation with year-round sun and moderateclimate. Centrally located, it offers access to a variety of unique outdoor,culinary and cultural opportunities. Santa Fe, home to world-renowned art, foodand history is nearby. Hiking, biking,skiing, golf, etc. are readily available. The University of New Mexico offers avariety of athletic and performing arts activities.

Qualifications

MinimumQualifications:

  • Able to obtain state licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico.
  • BC/BE in Pediatric Critical Care.
  • Ten years clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with professional education, teaching, and research.
  • Experience with ECMO.
  • Experience with care of the pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and trauma patient.
  • Evidence of leadership roles in academic medicine.
  • Experience mentoring of junior faculty.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
