What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Case Manager position at University of New Mexico?
The University of New Mexico's, Department of Pediatrics, Continuum of Care Division is looking for a RN Case Manager to join our team working with the Developmental and Disability community in New Mexico.
Job duties will include but not limited to:
- Functions independently as coordinator of various clinics. Assesses, provides, plans and evaluates care for patients in a wide variety of settings. Triage of phone calls and acts as liaison between physician, families, and patients. Assists in problem solving with nursing staff from various community programs working with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities on complex issues. Arranges for specialized diagnostic testing such as EEG, Video EEG, MEG, MRI, etc.
- Education of interdisciplinary members including nurses, physicians, families and patients regarding healthcare issues. Works in conjunction with physician to educate patients, families, schools and nurses on the CP, CP Ortho and Neurology clinics.
- Manages and coordinates insurance issues related to Neurology, CP and CP Ortho Clinics.
- Cross-trained and able to cover all nursing positions in Continuum of Care
- Complete mortality reviews
- Design and present trainings on various developmental disability issues

- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- CPR Certified.
- May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
- UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Knowledge of DD
- Knowledge of new Mexico DD Waiver and I/DD systems
- Knowledge of anticonvulsant medications
- Knowledge/problem solving of Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) used for treatment of seizures
- Knowledge of CP, CP Ortho, Neurology and Ketogenic Diet
- Knowledge of infection control
- Experience in Case Management
- Experience in designing and presenting trainings on I/DD topics
- Communications and organization skills
