Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
Responsible for providing outstanding leadership to support Game Day Management for as many as 10 of UNC’s 28 Varsity Sport Programs. The position includes all facets of Division I Athletic event management, including preparation, facilitation and supervision for home regular and post-season varsity competition. Responsibilities include administrative support, data collection and analysis; event preparation and event management; planning and management of various projects; procurement and contract management; recruiting, hiring & training; cleaning, health and safety; communication and management of a part time, volunteer and student work force. Responsible for coordinating volunteer workers and organizations to enhance the game environment under the current NCAA Division I guidelines and initiatives.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to provide Financial Administrative support for the Event Management Unit, prepare and send out operations guides and tournament manuals, informational documents; graphic design and content creation; work effectively with coaches and other staff to coordinate needs and arrangements for home events. In-game responsibilities may include: Set up of Facility, briefing of staff, supervision of staff, liaison with other event support units, crowd control, troubleshooting, upkeep of field/court, team and official liaison, supervise staff oversight, operation of scoreboard and sound equipment. Ability to prepare hospitality spaces for post-season events. Ability to maintains supplies and equipment inventory. Availability to attend all Event Management staff meetings. Serve as department contact to assigned vendors and outside groups. Competencies to oversee and coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of department owned vehicles and golf carts. Ability to work effectively with assisting Event Management staff with special projects which may include research, meetings, written reports and long term planning. Ability to communicate with various constituents; general public; students; coaches; administrators and display appropriate pro-activity. Strong work ethic with adaptability. Excellent organizational skills. Customer service orientation. Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Social Media, Graphic Design, Data Base Management, Google Docs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Understanding of Division 1 Athletic policies and protocols; ability to multitask, be proactive, calm and personable under pressure; previous experience with event management and possess interpersonal skills; work effectively as a team member; possess listening and communication skills in various environments; strong situational awareness and the ability to prioritize and stay composed under pressure; ability to take direction, exercise critical thinking, and ability to design event related materials; possession of emergency management skills; familiarity with various communications devices (PA, Radio, Scoreboards); AED, First Aid/CPR and experience with two-way radios also desired.General knowledge of all ACC and NCAA competition guidelines related to game management.Relevant Master’s Degree preferred.Seeking candidates who will bring great energy, passion, commitment, kind optimism, intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, highly empathetic, highly self aware, creativity, reliability, with a high degree of iIntegrity & effective communication skills to this work unit to continue to improve the service provided to our Student-Athletes, Coaches, Staff, and Fans.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to stand long periods of time (in excess of 12 hours), perform medium force: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to extreme heat and cold; subject to hazards and atmospheric conditions; subject to oils; exposed to infectious diseases.
