Department Summary
The Learning Sciences (LS) program is located in the Department of Educational Psychology in the College of Education. The Department consists of several programs, including LS; Human Development and Family Sciences; Gifted and Talented Education; Research, Measurement, and Statistics; and Special Education.

The LS program is both similar and unique from the broader field. Like the broader field, we are dedicated to understanding how sociocultural systems impact learning and designing innovative and transformative opportunities for learning through collaborative partnerships. The LS concentration at UNT supports full-time students and also allows students to take courses exclusively in the evenings so that they can continue to work in districts, museums, and other settings where they can implement their developing expertise in consequential ways. Graduates of the Learning Sciences concentration are prepared to contribute to the community-based design of learning opportunities including in settings like schools, museums, and community centers.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Department of Educational Psychology invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor appointment within Learning Sciences to begin Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to develop or continue an ongoing research agenda in their specific area of Learning Sciences, including regular publications in quality outlets, professional presentations, and submission of external grant proposals. Instructional roles include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in traditional and online formats and potentially at satellite locations. Courses may be taught across multiple programs and to both students preparing to be practitioners and those preparing to be researchers. Service on dissertation committees is expected, as well as committee participation and other relevant service activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in a field related to the Learning Sciences (e.g., education, educational psychology, curriculum and instruction, cognitive psychology, teaching and learning, human development), and a research agenda appropriate for publication in, for example, the Journal of the Learning Sciences and/or other journals focused on Learning Science research. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the doctorate is successfully defended prior to the start date (August 2024).

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience, as well as external funding or the potential for external funding, commensurate with rank.

We seek applicants whose scholarship corresponds with the global conversation related to Learning Sciences, may advance understanding of learning processes within various diverse contexts and environments and address disparities in educational contexts, community settings, work/play spaces, and in family life. Scholars with research agendas in workplaces and other outside-school settings are welcome, though an ability to speak to school contexts is relevant for most of our current students.
