The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Doctoral Studies Assistant Director.

Under the direction of the Director of Doctoral Studies (DDS), the Assistant Director of Doctoral Studies (ADSD) will provide academic support to the Kroc Institute's Peace Studies PhD program with a focus on attraction, recruitment, yield, and retention of top caliber PhD students, including students that can maintain diversity/balance within the six partner bodies of discipline (anthropology, history, political science, psychology, sociology, or theology).

The ADSD will direct and oversee all administrative and operational responsibilities of the PhD program including:
  • assisting students in regards to the curricular requirements of the peace studies doctoral program and the new PhD minor in peace studies
  • the day-to day administration of the PhD program
  • overall admission process coordination
  • tracking degree requirements and progress
  • coordinating with the Graduate School and 6 partner departments on curriculum and verification of graduation requirements.



This position will also:
  • develop, create, submit, and manage annual operating budgets for the PhD program focusing on approved budget allocations for target number of students, student stipends, fellowships, professional development, research awards, and other non-labor expenditures.
  • new initiatives will include exploration, design, development, and implementation of a new stand alone Peace Studies PhD program at the Kroc Institute, in collaboration with the Keough School of Global Affairs.
  • work closely with our PhD candidates and provide career placement support and guidance to our doctoral students to continue to secure high-profile teaching, research, and administrative positions in higher education.
  • assume the new responsibility of reassessing, redesigning, developing, and implementing a new program for the Kroc Institute's annual Summer Institute.



Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Masters degree or Bachelors degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelors
Experience: 5 to 6 years
Experience/Skills:
  • excellent organizational, teamwork and prioritizing skills
  • strong written and oral communication skills
  • proficiency in Onbase or related systems
  • discretion in managing confidential student information
  • ability to handle a variety of tasks and deadlines efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly build relationships with prospective and existing students of all backgrounds, as well as faculty and staff partners
  • experience developing recruitment strategies
  • organizing student events and activities
  • ability to think strategically about enrollment issues



Preferred Qualifications:
Experience advising students and coordinating academic programs a plus
