The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Innovation and Practice, Associate Director.

The Associate Director independently oversees a portfolio of larger and more complex projects within the Pulte Institute for Global Development's (Pulte) Innovation and Practice (IP) Division.

This includes a full range of professional level work that includes:
  • project management
  • providing and assessing technical inputs
  • budgeting
  • coordination
  • administrative support
  • business development
  • oversight for Pulte and research programs that requires processing and translating complex research findings into practice and policy




The Associate Director supports effective implementation of externally-funded projects in the IP Division (the IP Division connects cutting-edge Notre Dame faculty research to help solve global development challenges) and serves as a critical link between Pulte, faculty/students, implementation partners, and funding agencies by providing technical assistance, budgeting, communication, and identifying supplemental technical resources as needed, and other general program support. The Associate Director also assists in the financial management and reporting of the University-funded and grant-funded budgets, and will work closely with colleagues in the Dean's Office of the Keough School of Global Affairs.

The Associate Director will assist in developing proposals for funding organizations, helping to expand the overall IP portfolio in line with the Pulte strategic plan and developing financial resources to support individual faculty needs. This includes independently identifying, researching, writing, and budgeting proposals for grants and project work funded by federal agencies, corporations, and foundations. The Associate Director will also assist in the financial management and reporting of the University-funded and grant-funded budgets, and will work closely with colleagues in Notre Dame Research and the Keough School of Global Affairs. This position will formulate program strategies and goals, direct long-term planning and develop policies and procedures related to projects and in support of the Division.

Program Management:
  • Provide independent management oversight for a portfolio of large, complex projects to support innovative faculty research in areas such as environmental sustainability, global health, humanitarianism, effectives states in development, and business in development, and other topics in line with the Pulte strategy.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of work plans, budgets, contracts, sub-agreements, reports and other communication as needed.
  • Responds to program requests, liaise with other program staff, facilitate and support communications, and maintain information systems.
  • This includes executing day-to-day administration, budget tracking and compliance, logistics, and work plan implementation tasks.

IP Organizational Systems Support:
  • Assist with designing and overseeing of policies and procedures in response to the needs of the IP Division's project portfolio and contributions to the Institute at large.

Proposal Development:
  • Lead proposal efforts as part of a team for research and technical projects through research, writing, budgeting, and serve as a resource for Pulte proposal teams and faculty in the identification and development of new proposal opportunities.

Business and Financial Management:
  • Assist the IP Director in the oversight and strategy for the University-funded and grant-funded budgets, including coordinating the preparation, monitoring and reporting of the university-funded budget in the University budget system throughout the budget cycle.
  • Monitoring and approve transactions, analyzing and preparing financial and administrative information as requested by the University, the Keough School or the Director and the Executive Director of Pulte.

Communication:
  • In collaboration with the IP Division Director, Pulte leadership, and communication specialists, prepare presentations on Pulte's research and development initiatives for appropriate external audiences.

This is a 3 year limited term position. Remote work options will be considered.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree or Bachelors degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelors.
  • Collaborative work ethic and high degree of independence and initiative required.
  • Potential travel to Low-Middle Income countries.
  • Previous work with funding organizations such as corporations, foundations, and federal agencies (e.g., USAID, DOS, NSF, NIH)
  • Strong oral and written skills required.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures and solid knowledge of federal funder requirements.



Preferred Qualifications:
5-6 years of experience in similar roles.

Experience in budgeting, management, and proposal development in an international context for federal agencies. Demonstrated ability to learn and use financial systems, while also developing and implementing administrative policies to strengthen organizational systems.
