The Keough School of Global Affairs seeks a Policy Impact Specialist to facilitate the translation of excellent development research into policy relevant outputs and enhance the impact of our policy practice. The mission of the Keough School-to advance integral human development-puts human flourishing at the center of our research, teaching, policy and practice, advocacy and global partnerships. The Keough School's nine institutes and its Global Policy Initiative bring multidisciplinary, professional, and regional expertise to research initiatives and programs oriented toward policy and practice outcomes. Having achieved a significant expansion in its teaching and research excellence, the Keough School's strategic plan sets forth a bold vision to address global challenges associated with peace and violence, climate change, poverty, human rights, and governance in a way that prioritizes the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations. The role of the Policy Impact Specialist is to provide programmatic and administrative coordination to help materialize this vision to produce significant policy and practice initiatives. The Policy Impact Specialist will report directly to the Associate Dean for Policy and Practice.

Translating Faculty Policy Relevant Research
The Policy Impact Specialist will manage a range of processes that support the translation of academic research into policy relevant publications and the dissemination of that policy work to relevant policy audiences. Specific tasks will include:
  • Identify, extract and translate Keough faculty research products to enhance their policy relevant implications. Working with the Knowledge Management team, the work includes surveying published and work-in-progress research with an eye to making research findings relevant to broader policy audiences.
  • Work with faculty members to support the translation of their academic research to different policy audiences. This writing, editing, fact-checking, and producing policy briefs, reports and other policy publications that inform policy debates in a timely and engaging manner.
  • Help maintain, expand and strengthen relationships with identified policy and practice organizations, policy dissemination outlets, and other key partners, including think tanks, development banks and other policy organizations
  • Contribute, whenever relevant, to the review and submission of policy relevant external grant proposals by Keough faculty.




Policy Relevant Research and Administrative Management.
The Policy Impact Specialist will provide the logistical and administrative support to help materialize the translation of development research into policy pertinent outputs. Specific tasks include:
  • Manage policy relevant activities to coordinate faculty working groups, manage and monitor faculty grants, follow up on delivery of policy relevant products of the Keough School;
  • Develop and maintain policy seminar discussions that feature the work of Keough Faculty, overseas partners, and other associates along the School's strategic planning thematic groups;
  • Work with the Washington Office team to expand the impact of the Global Policy Initiative on campus and in Washington, DC, including the running of policy workshops with MGA students and interested faculty;
  • Coordinate with the Events and Communication Teams to provide logistical support and program planning for larger policy relevant events;
  • Provide other administrative support to the Associate Dean for Policy and Practice.



Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a graduate degree in global affairs, international development, political economy, economics, political science or another relevant social science. Candidates must also have:
  • A solid understanding of the policy landscape in at least one of the key areas of research expertise in the School (peace, environment, poverty, governance)
  • At least two years of professional experience in working on policy relevant issues in a organizational or institutional context focused on global challenges
  • Excellent professional networking, communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrated research and policy writing/editing abilities
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment






Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Program management experience working with development partners in and from the Global South
  • Capacity to carry out qualitative and/or quantitative analysis
  • Language skills (reading, writing and speaking) beyond English
  • Professional experience working with research and policy partners from multiple cultural backgrounds, religious traditions and geographical locations
