University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Sustainability Program Manager, Operations.

Applications will be accepted until 11/3/2022.

It is an exciting time to join Notre Dame's Office of Sustainability Team! Sustainability is a prioritized area within Notre Dame's current strategic planning process and the University recently hired a new senior director, which has elevated the presence of sustainability within the university. We are seeking a team member who will support the University's mission to care for our common home.
The Sustainability Program Manager, Operations is responsible for managing partnerships and overseeing several responsibility areas within the Office of Sustainability. The main focus of the operational role will be end-to-end materials management, in addition to other priorities identified by the senior director and University leadership. Materials management will include procurement and waste reduction partnerships. Additional areas of work include those at the intersection of resiliency and campus operations. The individual in this role will partner with key stakeholders at different levels of leadership and influence across campus, facilitate operations-based working groups, and mentor and supervise student interns.
The Program Manager, alongside operational partners, will develop and lead projects to drive progress towards University sustainability targets/goals. To do this, the individual will need to build strong collaborative relationships with campus units, work with external vendors, benchmark other University operational solutions, build business cases and proposals, and deliver presentations.
This individual will work closely with partners from Athletics, Building Services, Campus Dining, and Procurement Services, among other operational units, identifying mutually beneficial objectives toward waste reduction, greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, and adaptation toward resiliency.
Working with the Office of Sustainability team, the Program Manager will mentor and directly supervise student interns; setting clear expectations, guiding project research, analysis, development and execution, and leveraging University resources to guide students as they build their skill sets while supporting office and university priorities.
Due to the changing nature of sustainability work, the person in this role will be expected to stay up to date with solutions within industry and higher education sustainability, being responsive to emerging areas of work. Successful candidates will highlight how their previous experiences allow them to thoughtfully adapt programming, strategy, and resources to changing needs and opportunities. Strong candidates will embrace sustainability and proactively advance their own development of sustainability. We are looking for candidates who have experience in one or more of the following areas, and can leverage those pre-existing skills to support and grow within the Office of Sustainability.
  • Applied / technical expertise - Applied experience in planning and executing low-waste events, energy and waste-related regulatory knowledge, and ability to communicate these topics to diverse stakeholders are desired.
  • Stakeholder management - Ability to partner with internal and external constituents is critical to creating success in this role. The Sustainability Program Manager will frequently work with stakeholders across the University with various levels of sustainability experience. They must be able to quickly develop trust and effectively communicate with other partners in order to drive efforts to completion in a timely manner and effectively leverage campus relationships to create success.
  • Project and/or program management - Experience planning, budgeting for, and implementing projects that span over multiple months/years or programs that recur on a regular basis. Exhibits an ability to facilitate continuous improvement with campus partners.
  • Data-driven analysis and recommendations - Experience leveraging data as one component of a decision-making and prioritization process.
  • Student intern management - The Sustainability Program Manager, Operations, will often work alongside others to achieve success. Experience managing employees, in particular, student employees, is valuable.

Successful candidates will be driven to work collaboratively, to excel, and will have an ability to adapt to changing priorities. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the senior director.
After onboarding into the role is complete, this position offers the opportunity for hybrid work from home 2 days/week in alignment with University policy.
