Job Description Summary
The Manager of Campus Recreation is part of the leadership team for Campus Recreation within the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics serving a diverse University Community of over 40,000 people.

The Manager of Campus Recreation oversees all areas of Adventure, Aquatics, Fitness, and Structured Sport programming, membership and online services, and special events as assigned. The position is responsible for developing and managing strategic planning, operations, program schedules, and budgets by setting program goals, measuring participant satisfaction, enhancing revenue generation, managing equipment inventories, approving purchases, enforcing policies, and managing professional staff as assigned. This position will be responsible for assembling all monthly and year-end key performance indicators for programs and membership, drafting proposals and reports, and overseeing the Recreation programming, membership, and administrative budget.

This individual will collaborate with Marketing and JMI Sports staff to effectively develop marketing strategies to promote Recreational programming and sponsorship opportunities while providing administrative leadership serving on the Recreation Management Team working with others across departmental functions to meet strategic goals. The Manager needs to cultivate current and prospective Campus Recreation members by being visible and accessible, be receptive to feedback, and network with other Recreational professionals within the City, Ivy League, and NIRSA.

Receives direct administrative supervision and guidance from the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operations Officer.

Job Description

Duties:
Develop and manage strategic planning, operations, program schedule and budget implications of all recreational program activities and services for the University community. This includes Fitness (personal training, group exercise, instructional fitness, pilates, and client services), structured sports (intramurals and club sports), aquatics (open swim, swim lessons, certifications, courses, and compliance with PA Bathing Code regulations) adventure (bouldering, rock wall climbing), and special events. Develop creative and innovative assessment tools to measure participant satisfaction and enhance revenue generation. Maintain equipment & supply inventories and approve purchases as needed. Develop, implement, & enforce policies & procedures as required. Recruit, hire, train, manage, and develop full-time and part-time staff as assigned.

Develop and manage strategic planning, operations, and budget implications of all membership options and online services (locker, adventure equipment, and golf simulator rentals). Develop creative and innovative assessment tools to measure participant satisfaction and enhance revenue generation. Maintain equipment & supply inventories and approve purchases as needed. Develop, implement, & enforce policies & procedures as required. Recruit, hire, train, manage, and develop full-time and part-time staff as assigned.

Draft and present proposals, revenue & expense reports, annual reports, and briefing materials to enhance business operations that are aligned with the Department, Division, and University. Manage Recreation programming, membership, and administrative budgets.

Collaborate and provide administrative leadership with Recreation Management Team across departmental functions. Work collaboratively with DRIA staff to effectively develop and implement marketing strategies, materials, and plans promoting Recreational programming and membership sales. Work collaboratively with JMI Sports staff to develop sponsorship opportunities within Campus Recreation facilities/programs.

Cultivate relationships with current and potential Rec members. Organize Rec Advisory Committee; select members, orgranize regularly scheduled meetings & agendas, and disseminate feedback. Spearhead external networking with NIRSA, City 6, Ivy League Rec Directors and other peers for Penn Campus Recreation team.

Qualifications:
Penn Campus Recreation is looking for a results-oriented, innovative, and analytical applicant who can manage multiple priorities and deliver high quality programs and services. This position encourages developing new ideas, systems, and technologies, but also analyzing and improving current ones. Calculated decision making in a fast-paced environment is required. Must be structured, organized, and efficient.

A Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Successful candidate must demonstrate experience in program administration, personnel management, business operations/budget management, strategic planning and leadership. Ability to motivate staff and work with a leadership team across multiple departments required.

Previous experience with fitness and wellness programming required. Must be willing to acquire and maintain any necessary certifications. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:
A degree with an emphasis in sports management/administration, recreation, business administration, marketing, or other related field is preferred. Previous experience with aquatics programming preferred. Any of the following certifications preferred but not required to be hired (accredited personal training and/or group fitness instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor, WSI and/or LGI, CPO and/or AFO, PA Pesticide Applicator, American Red Cross CPR/AED Instructor, AMGA Top Rope, etc.).
