Research Security Program Manager
The Research Security Program Manager reports to the Director of Research Security and Trade Compliance in the Office of Research Security & Trade Compliance. This is a remote position with the requirement to analyze recent federal research security laws and other guidance in order to create a compliant research security program for the University of Pittsburgh. Candidates possessing prior experience in policy and procedure development are preferred. Although this is a remote position, candidates will be required to travel to campus to conduct training sessions and meet with constituents on an as needed basis. The position will work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Research Security & Trade Compliance and staff on all matters related to international engagement, export controls, and biological imports.
The Research Security Program Manager will have overall responsibility for coordinating the expected federal research security program requirements once created. The position will work closely with the Director of Research Security & Trade Compliance to create and implement processes, procedures, and training sessions for the community consistent with Pitt's final research security program. This position will also interface with other central offices to successfully integrate this program with other established protocols and systems found in OSP, UCIS/Global Operations, Pitt-IT, Procurement, Conflict of Interest, and Research Integrity. Maintenance of the Research Security portion of the website will also be required.
Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day performance of compliance assessment projects or programs and resolves compliance issues and ensures compliance. Fosters internal controls, compliance procedures, and compliance audit programs. Assists in all components of audits.
Essential Functions
Specifically, the position will coordinate the four major components of this program which include:
* Foreign travel security processes and procedures;
* Cybersecurity requirements including advice around personally owned devices;
* Export Controls training and advice in collaboration with the export controls team; and
* Research Security Training requirements and certification for covered individuals under federal applications and awards.
Physical Effort
The position is primarily sedentary, but the employee will have to do some walking around campus to attend meetings when required to be on site.
