Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate high energy density physics. LLE is currently seeking a System Analyst to join the Facility Operations Management group in overseeing the operation of the Omega 60 and Omega EP laser facilities. Candidate will be responsible for monitoring facility performance and optimizing facility utilization by identification of problem areas. Work closely with IT personnel to define and implement business rules as necessary. Publish periodic reports for a variety of internal and external customers. Stand Shot Director and oversee the execution of complex laser shot operations by the on-watch crew.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Qualify as Shot Director, the senior crew member responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the facility and interfacing with scientists performing experiments on the system.
- Monitor and analyze existing performance metrics.
- Prepare reports and presentations communicating current system performance and capability.
- Author and review procedures for shot and maintenance operations.
- Work with IT staff to develop tools and web-based utilities necessary for efficient operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. Degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Information Tech, Computer Science or equivalent skills work experience
- Proficient with MSOffice Suite
- High reliability and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills suitable for working in a team-based environment.
- Capacity to function in a high complexity and high stress environments
- An ideal candidate would additionally possess one or more of the following:
- Experience in complex plant shift operations, for example power plant or microprocessor fab facility
- Proficient extracting data from an Oracle database
- Experience with high power laser or complex optical systems
- Experience with MATLAB
- Ability to read code written in Perl
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance is preferred
