Description

The Office of Housing at The University of Tennessee at Martin is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Hall Director of Arnold Pryor Place. The Hall Director is responsible for implementing a residence life program that promotes community development and student engagement in the residence halls. Each unit in housing contains anywhere from 260 to 500 students whose demographic is mainly undergraduate students. The Hall Director will focus their position on staff supervision and development, student discipline, program development, property management, and on call response to a variety of situations. The Arnold Pryor Place Hall Director will supervise 5 Resident Assistants. This is a full-time live-in position with a competitive salary, furnished apartment, comprehensive benefits package, professional development opportunities and a tuition waiver. The expected start date for this position is anticipated to be August 1, 2024.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a residence hall.
  • Coordinate all check-in and check-out procedures for residents moving into and out of university housing.
  • Coordinate facility tours for individuals interested in living in university housing.
  • Maintain accurate hall rosters at all times.
  • Work with the Assistant Director for Residence Life to manage and coordinate room assignments and changes in the hall(s) and communicate/resolve housing issues in accordance with established procedures.
  • Interpret and enforce housing policies and procedures in cooperation with the housing office. This may include providing information to residents regarding lease conditions, assisting other University representatives in conducting investigations into incidents involving residents, and referring residents to other University representatives when necessary.
  • Manage and mediate resident conflicts in a manner that is timely and provide proper follow-up when appropriate.
  • Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular inspection rounds of building for safety, maintenance, and cleaning concerns. Ensure that problems are reported and corrected as soon as possible.
  • Maintain office hours in the residence hall according to schedule designated by the Assistant Director for Residence Life.
  • Participate in a daily, year-round, rotating on-call schedule. This includes being available for emergency situations across campus and working closely with other University representatives to resolve crisis situations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Assistant Director for Residence Life, facilities staff and the building residents regarding maintenance projects, repairs, and concerns.
  • Supervise the administrative functions of the hall office operation, including Desk Attendants, timesheets/payroll, supplies, keys, etc.
  • Maintain a hall budget by preparing and carefully recording all expenditures according to departmental procedures.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, formal, and informal feedback to staff regarding responsibilities and work performance.
  • Communicate and hold student staff accountable for job expectations as outlined by residence life in departmental policy and procedure manuals.
  • Assist with coordinating, developing, and implementing student staff training programs.
  • Facilitate weekly student staff meetings to provide relevant information and clear communication.
  • Focus on relationship building and student interaction daily with hall residents.
  • Serve as a visible and accessible resource in the residence hall for student interaction.
  • Contribute to the development and facilitation of the residential curriculum.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of residence hall programs and activities of an educational, cultural, social, and recreational nature.
  • Assist and support residents in their growth through providing support, mediation, crisis intervention and follow-up.
  • Communicate, educate and follow-up with residents on housing violations and responsible decision making through student meetings.
  • Provide crisis management support and intervention.
  • Assist hall staff in promoting an environment that is safe, conducive to studying, and well-maintained.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel and/or previous graduate or professional work experience in residence life.

Market Range MR07 - Salary is commensurate with education and experience with a minimum starting salary of $42,671.28. Additional compensation includes a furnished apartment, utilities, comprehensive benefits package, professional development opportunities, and a tuition waiver.
