Purpose
Performs journey level preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostic testing, and repairs of mechanical systems in campus facilities.
Responsibilities
Represents EHS in the day to day management of the UT Health Austin Clinical Safety Survey process, including updates to the surveys and deficiency resolution. Evaluate research spaces for both biological and chemical work, as well as other laboratory spaces as needed, including all animal work. Facilitates the incorporation of clinics into the EHS system, including notification of inspections, requests for licensure changes, initial training, and waste management.
Assist in monitoring UT Health Austin compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services standards. Aid in maintaining and modifying certification paperwork, proficiency testing, assisting with accreditation inspections and implementing regulatory changes as they occur for CLIA, CAP and other accreditations. Observes work procedures of personnel to assure proper use of equipment and safe working conditions. Help maintain indoor air quality program in association with UT Health Austin.
Coordinates with Infection Prevention and Employee Health to ensure consistent language and message in policies, procedures and training. Develop and administer training programs and create technical reports to assist individuals in the proper application of safety regulations and procedures in working with hazardous agents.
Maintaining the performance metrics for EHS regarding work at UT Health Austin clinics.
When requested, serve as a reviewer for the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and IRB, establish and implement strategic goals and objectives for UTs Biosafety program. Review protocols, perform risk assessments and recommendations for the IBC and IRB.
Works with others in EHS to investigate incidents that involve occupational illnesses and injuries to identify trends, mitigate hazards and develop prevention strategies/programs. Respond to emergency biosafety emergencies or exposures and indoor air quality concerns.
Assists management and/or committees in the development of policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for employees, students and patients.
Perform other duties as assigned. Considered essential personnel.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in natural science, industrial hygiene, environmental science, engineering, or related field. One year of experience in clinical safety or related experience with a master's degree or three years of experience in clinical safety or related experience with a bachelor's degree. Technical writing and public speaking skills required. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree with 5 years of experience. Preferred certification depending on the work assignments. Point of Care Specialist Certification.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$63,000 depending on qualifications
