Job Summary
The University of Texas at Dallas Libraries and Archives are seeking a collaborative and service-oriented candidate for the position of Metadata Librarian. This position manages and provides access to the government document collection in accordance with the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the collection policies of the UT Dallas Libraries. This position is a member of Metadata Services and reports to the Head of the department.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; experience in working with an integrated library system, preferably ExLibris’ Alma; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Two years of cataloging experience in an academic library.
  • Experience working with government documents or knowledge of the Federal Depository Library Program.
  • Proficiency in batch-editing MARC records and experience working with MarcEdit.
  • Experience working with Alma and Primo.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinates all activities related to the Library’s government documents program and ensures that the Library follows the rules and policies of the Federal Deposit library Program (FDLP).
  • Maintains and imports MARC records for government documents and ensures that records display accurately in the library discovery layer.
  • Manages discarded title list and updates/deletes bibliographic records. Supplies regional depositories with lists of discarded items for the Duplicates and Exchange Program.
  • Processes tangible Federal government documents materials in accordance with established local cataloging policies and workflow.
  • Serves as documents liaison to Research Services.
  • Selects government documents titles and series for the library collection in accordance with departmental and library collection policies. Checks annual printout of item selections for appropriateness to the collection and makes item additions or deletions under the guidance of library administration.
  • Performs original and/or copy cataloging, authority control, and subject analysis.
