Salary
Salary Range: up to $61,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week
Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
The UTSA Office of Alumni Relations seeks a highly-organized, proactive, and solution-oriented professional, skilled in internal and external communication to serve as the Communications Manager. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develops and executes thoughtful communications, public relations and marketing programs, for Alumni Association engagement programs and solicitations, including, but not limited to newsletters, signature fundraising events, and programming, determining appropriate outlets, events, and audiences to increase knowledge and exposure for the department and its' initiatives.
  • Serves as the lead editor for all communications and publications. Designs, writes, edits, formats and assembles documents and publications for the department, ensuring that they are in compliance with Alumni Association, University, and System standards and requirements.
  • Directs and oversees the work of support staff and specialists, assisting with digital and hard copy communications and publications while providing mentoring and guidance to foster professional growth to assigned team members.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates website and related pages; coordinates updates and content review and revisions; ensures website complies with University, System, and Association guidelines.
  • Oversees the management of all UTSA Alumni Association social media accounts and other avenues of digital outreach.
  • Prepare proposals, informational materials, and reports to advance programming and development efforts for the Alumni Association.
  • Works with administrators and staff to research and prepare summaries of current initiatives and accomplishments of the department for inclusion in publications for advancement, department and university promotional purposes.
  • Works with Alumni Engagement team to ensure the department has a presence at public and on-campus events.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains internal communications networks within the department and the University community.
  • Acts as liaison with other University communications staff.
  • Monitors budgets for communications and marketing project and programs.
  • Works with area subject matter experts, studies and provides analytics on communications, and analyzes material published by other universities to assist in setting organizational best practices.
  • Develops surveys working and collaborating with management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five years of experience writing, editing and producing communications. Additional education may substitute for experience on a one for one basis
  • Demonstrated understanding of English language usage, writing styles, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of standard concepts, practices and procedures in writing for print and electronic media.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills; strong editing and proofreading skills with the ability to adjust writing style to intended audience.
  • Ability to organize and track projects and tasks to ensure accuracy, high quality and timely completion; maintain attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and handle diverse tasks.
  • Proven track record of excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and to take design direction and positively respond to feedback
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of colleagues as a team member and as a leader in a complex organizational environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education or a nonprofit environment.
  • Experience with website and social media management.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Dreamweaver.

Working Conditions
This position will be primarily located:

Hybrid-Regularly: This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
  • Ability to travel to and from events, meetings and site visits on a regular basis.
  • After hours and weekend work is required
