Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Dean, supervises all oral health
educational activities in the dental school to assure that educational
objectives and outcomes are met.

Essential Functions
  • Provide oversight of all educational programs in the dental school, including undergraduate DDS and IDS programs, dental hygiene, all postgraduate programs, and Continuing Dental Education, and coordinate their functioning and continuous improvement in compliance with University and CODA guidelines; use outcomes assessment data of all curricula, faculty and student research in coordination with Assistant Dean for Research, Outcomes Team, Student Services, and Continuing Dental Education.
  • Supervise, support, develop, and evaluate direct reports including the Director of Academic Affairs (DAA), Assistant Dean for Research (ADR), the Assistant Dean for Admissions, Student Services, and Diversity, all academic department chairpersons, IDS Program Director, Director of Educational Innovation and Assessment, and the Director of Continuing Dental Education. (DCDE).
  • Coordinate the faculty recruitment, appointment, orientation, retention, development, promotion, and separation processes with Human Resources, Fiscal Services, and department chairpersons; create a comprehensive faculty staffing plan and assure department chairpersons, faculty, and staff are compliant with all aspects of the plan and steps in these processes.
  • Direct the maintenance of and compliance with the electronic CV and faculty credentialing systems.
  • Evaluate and monitor faculty compensation; make recommendations for equity and merit decisions.
  • Promote and oversee faculty development including specific development programs and serve as chairperson of the Faculty Development Oversight Committee.
  • Manage the Mission Focused Faculty Evaluation process and assure remediation of underperforming faculty.
  • Manage department chair annual and three year 360 evaluations.
  • Manage the timely and accurate completion of reports related to accreditation, faculty, curriculum and student progress, including the curriculum database.
  • Manage the creation, maintenance, and evolution of a progressive oral health curriculum.
  • Serve as chairperson of the Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee, the Student Academic Performance and Promotion Committee, and the Curriculum Committee.
  • Participate in appropriate dental school/University/external programs and committees.
  • Work with the ADR, DAA, department chairpersons, and external agencies to target grants and create partnerships with industry to advance student/resident education.
  • Complete any additional tasks or projects as directed by the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Curriculum management
  • Competency based education and assessment
  • Modern pedagogical concepts and application in health professions education
  • Licensing and accrediting agencies and their activities related to the dental school
  • Credentialing standards for health professions
  • Student Information Systems
  • FERPA and HIPAA
  • Trends in oral health and oral health education
  • Dental accreditation standards and processes
  • Word, Excel, Outlook, , Learning Management Systems (LMS), SharePoint, Access databases.
Experience:
  • Minimum of seven years of work experience in a dental school setting with increasing administrative responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated research background.
Education:
  • At least one related doctoral degree, including DDS/DMD/BDS/PhD/EdD.
Working Conditions:
  • Position requires coordination of a variety of responsible duties in stressful situations.
  • Must be available for some evening and weekend commitments and/or events.

Experience:
  • Dental private practice, group practice, or public health experience preferable.
Other:
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

  • Work performed is primarily general office/administrative with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone
  • Requires sitting majority of the working day; occasional standing, bending and walking.
Hiring Range $134,717.00 - $185,236.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
