Primary Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of External Relations, the Marketing Assistant is responsible for the marketing and communication needs of the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy (School); developing, planning, coordinating and implementing communications initiatives.

Essential Functions:
Serves as writer of the Deans Letter (monthly) newsletters and ongoing School alumni blog strategically repurposing and cross-promoting content to increase brand awareness across all platforms including social media, web sites and various digital communications.
Executes communication plan for recruiting prospective students by writing or adapting existing content and building email messages in the email client.
Responsible for creating and executive the Schools social media strategy on Facebook and LinkedIn.
Develops and manages internal and external messaging strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director and Dean to include speeches, talking points, presentations and other communications.
Works in partnership with other Team members on alumni relations and engagement programs, recruiting materials, website pages, print and digital periodicals and more.
Gathers information by means of interviews, database research, etc. for effective presentation in print materials, web sites, and other media.
Tailors copy and messaging with an emphasis on customer focus to clearly communicate the Schools brand and demonstrate the impact of philanthropy to varying audiences.
Assists in the promotion, management and execution of School events.
Assists in the coordination of student organization event and program promotional material and media relations.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree.
Three (3) years of experience in marketing communications and website management.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing marketing communication plans.
Experience working with a CMS.
Graphic design experience and strong technical skills and familiarity with software programs, such as WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier.
Strong understanding of current digital marketing concepts, strategy and best practices.
Working knowledge of contemporary content management systems, project management, web analytics and social media strategy.

Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Knowledge of AP Style guidelines.
Demonstrated expertise in the production of web content, videos and other promotional tools.
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound professional judgments in the performance of areas of responsibilities.
Demonstrated capacity to learn and understand the unique culture of an organization.
Strong ability to cultivate strong relations with faculty, faculty leaders and staff and the capacity to work as a member of a team.
Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Infrequent reaching above shoulders and climbing stairs. May require lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Work is performed during standard business hours and outside traditional work hours as needed to meet business needs and deadlines.

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience, non-exempt
